How to escape your box of deppresion

How would you escape the box of depression. Imagine you're brain wearing sunglasses and the only thing you find in good things are just dark and you never take them off because you're brain sees nothing but darkness and the glasses are attached to you're head. For some people never find a way to escape the vision or as some may call it the box but its not impossible. This may lead to killing yourself or never again leaving your house to find the good in the world. What would you do to escape?

Lol. I always think of dark things. I guess the worst bit about that would be it's darker for for your brain so it would think it's night time and make you sleepy.

normally for me, it goes away when i do things that makes me happy.
but if that fails i just go to my family or friends. that also helps me.

Depression for me is something that comes and goes. What I need to realize is that life is a series of highs and lows. While the lows definitely suck a better day is just around the corner. It's important to give yourself some creative leeway to put a wip down when you don't have the strength to be creative and positive about your work. Or work on something that channels that current glum mood (if you can). Also complaining to a friend can help lift that cloud sooner. Saying "I should just quit" when these moods hit isn't constructive and often just stops all your creative energy which can be used in a more constructive manner.

If depression is a constant problem and you can't escape it, get professional help. You won't do it on your own if it is that bad a problem. You may need medication if you have a chemical imbalance or someone to talk to if you seriously need to work through unresolved issues or make steps to fix problems in your life.

Hmm.

Being with people who love you and know you well....going for a walk, fresh air. Sunshine.

Manual labour (like doing dishes) is proven to reduce stress.

hmmm.

Sometimes it's just about getting over yourself and putting your issues into perspective.

It's different for everyone.

Well the glasses can't always just simply be taken off. Sometimes they're flex taped to my head. They have to be taken off slowly, removing a little darkness at a time, until there comes a point where more light is showing than dark.

Depression can be beaten, but not by wallowing in the darkness and refusing to make an effort to escape it. Okay, depression can cause fatigue, which diminishes the impetus to take the steps needed to escape. But think proactively; avoid the trap of self-pity because it forces you to relive causes of pain and suffering under the guise of gratification and self-sympathy, and drags you down further. You need a plan; give yourself a goal that sparks your interest, set tasks for yourself to reach that goal, and give yourself rewards for each success along the way toward achieving that end. It also helps to change your surroundings and keep things fresh. Daylight releases endorphins on the brain, and so does exercise, which can have additional benefits. If you have family or friends who can help, enjoy their positive company. If you need medication to overcome something pathological, or therapy for something psychological, get to a doctor for consultation and treatment. But don’t wait, get it done and get on with living your life, even if it’s just one step at a time.

I take antidepressants (SSRI), cleaned my house (helped a lot but was hard to get started!), found a new career from city bus driver to farrier and accepted my situation and learned to live with it. I will be in garnisment yet for decades until I get my debt fully paid. I still get bad days but at least I am not in a risk taking away my life anymore.

Perfect life is a lot more than just fully paid house and car. Those are just material.

That’s the neat part, you don’t. At least, I don’t think you’re ever truly cured of depression or any other mental illness. You just learn to manage them, take steps and avoid the things that make them worse, and you do that for the rest of your life. It does get easier, but it never goes away. And you end up in a situation that exasperates your mental illness, or you stop doing the steps and let things get out of control and you’re right back where you were before, maybe even worse.

I don't speak for anybody else here, how this affects them is a nuanced issue and their own subjective experiences are within their own right to determine for themselves, not mine.

But as for my experience with depression? it's a curse, one that has brought me to ruin many times over and one which I've had to seek therapy sessions for, and I have a feeling it probably won't be the last one. And it does not help to exist in a world that brings that pain either, I did not come here to burden anybody else or make enemies, but it only takes one misunderstanding for people to mistreat us or vice versa, and I've been at wits end about it on separate occasions, how do you recover from something like this? maybe some others are stronger than I am, I don't know, like I said I can only state my own experience with depression, sometime days I can cope with it, other days it gets so horrible I cannot sleep. Next time I see a GP I will ask them to extend my prescription of diazepam, at least when I am dreaming I'm out of it.

It's part of the reason why I daydream, I don't hallucinate about beings who are not there, and I don't have a religion, however I am beginning to understand more deeply why some people would want an imaginary friend, considering that their imaginary friend appears to bring them more comfort than the real world does, or at least, they imply it, but hallucinations are still a sign of something going fundamentally wrong with a person's brain, and a fictional person is never a good substitute for a real person who you can relate to, it's one of those conundrums of the psyche, people seek refuge even in places that are only temporary, but in the end, what needs to change is how we treat each other, that is the only hope the world has in recovering from the mess it is in.

So, to be frank:
- I have depression.
-I have PTSD.
-I have anxiety and panic attacks.
- I also dealt with suicidal thoughts and nearly gave in as a teen. Yes, I did cut myself.

Now, did I ever get TheoryPy for any of this? No.
Have I sought it? Yes.
Did it work? No.
Why? Given the mental breakdown, and because I tend to be labeled as lower class" or, well, a typical American, we tend to get sidelined unless you have money. The sad thing is, a lot of lower class Americans are seen as more than just a number in the system that can be replaced by the next walk-in-the-door hire a lot of the time.

Now, thankfully for me, and I'm lucky I've got these once-in-a-lifetime type of friends who are my family. Also, the example my grandmother set for me in her life and what she taught me. I also have a partner who, even in his darkest hour, will go out of his way to be there for me, listen, and, well, be there for me. I try to do the same, given how much we are both going through right now. Yet it's also my own will, strength, and just not letting this "dark" cloud over me take over my life and finding the will to fight!

You don't ever get rid of the "cloud," and yes, it's hard as heck, but I'm also taking steps to change and take hold of life. I think living with this takes a type of strength a lot of people have but think they lack, and sometimes it takes someone to point it out or you to say enough.
