"I know that yer all scared, even when ye don't want to admit it. Even I am scared for the journey ahead but if we work together I believe that we can make it." Caramel said with a smile. "There will be fighting, so we must train. There will be pain, so we must be strong. There will exhaustion, so we must sleep well and most important there will be teamwork, so we must trust each other." Caramel took the wheel, steered it around so that the ship headed towards the Deadmares cross.

Rave nodded. "Yes, I believe the cross is our best chance. We will have to rely on each other like we've never done before". Rave walked to the end of the ship and looked across the ocean, in the direction of Deadmares cross. He began wondering the dangers that they might encounter there. He had some old maps, drawn by captains or other sailors that managed to survive passing through.

"Scared?!" Tyra scoffed, puffing out her chest with a smirk practically oozing pride, "A Shatterhoof knows not the meaning of fear!"

 

She pulled her hoof up to the captain determinedly, getting fired up. "I shall be ready for this monster, and we shall all stand triumphant atop its lifeless body!"

 

She reared up, forehooves resting on the railing next to the wheel, and pointed toward the horizon. "Bring on this Deadmares Cross! We shall conquer every inch of it!"

"Tyra remember, one can not be brave if they do not know fear." Caramel said almost losing her pirate accent. "Aye, this is going to be a rough journey. But we'll make it, I promise that." she said as she let go of the wheel. The ship was now heading in the right direction, towards danger. "Tyra, how about ye show me yer fighting, as a training. Just some friendly competition." she said with a daring look.

Tyra perked up at the challenge, and she met the captain's daring look with one of her own.

She hopped off the railing and looked up at Caramel with a smirk. "I accept."

 

She stretched her neck, feeling it click and pop. "Shall we use weapons, or our bare hooves?"

"I like to use my bare hooves. If ye want to use yer weapons, that's fine by me." Caramel said as she was getting ready. With one broken wing she wasn't sure if she was able to win, but that wasn't the point. Just as many of the ponies on board. caramel felt an urge for fighting. Which is strange since she normally isn't a fan of fighting. Somehow she just feels like it. Maybe she had too much scotch. Caramel stood ready on four hooves, ready for any attack. "Let's see how tough ye really are." she said with a smile towards Tyra.

Tyra smirked and nodded, removing her axe's harness and setting it to the side to agree with the stipulation.

 

"I shall use my hooves as well, so we are even," she declared, kneeling down as if preparing to pounce, "and I shall not target your bad wing. It would be dishonourable to my opponent."

 

The two mares stared each other down, and the shorter one began a sprinting charge toward the captain, yelling a battle cry in an attempt to headbutt her.

"Don't think I'll go soft just because yer a friend." Caramel smirked. Tyra charged towards her, with one wings, Caramel still managed to jump high enough to avoid the headbutt. She then slowly came back to the ground. Waiting for another attack from Tyra. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Tyra came to a screeching halt as Caramel hopped over her to avoid her attack.

"I do not expect you to go easy on me," she smirked back at the captain, "even between friends, a fight should be all out!"

 

She ran back toward the pegasus, attempting an uppercut with her left hoof.

Caramel again dodged Tyra's attack. "Come on, ye can do better than that. Ye might be strong but yer attacks are too predictable. Make them fast and variable, so that I can't dodge yer attacks. Strength and smarts, ye should know this. Come on!" Caramel said with a big smile.

Tyra felt a tinge of frustration at Caramel's dodging her once again. Yet she continued to smirk back at her.

"You are fast, I will say," she admitted, "but it takes more than speed to win a fight!"

 

She ran to the pegasus again, leaping and preparing another punch, diving for her.

This time Caramel was not fast enough to dogde Tyra's attack. Before she knew it Caramel was laying on the ground. Her sight was getting fussy. "That's some punch ye got there, Tyra.....Uhm...Tyra.....I...I don't feel so good....This was a bad idea." Caramel said as her everything before her eyes turned black again.

Wilhelm sighed, rolled his eyes to the heavens, and clapped mockingly. "I do assume you're done with putting us at a massive disadvantage against the sea monster you've all been ranting about?" Finishing the last nail on one of the rear windows, he grabbed a bucket of rainwater and dumped it onto Caramel's head. "Wakey-wakey, Caramel dear."

"Haha!" Tyra laughed, finally getting a blow on Caramel, knocking her to the floor. However she wasn't getting up, and her eyes were turning blank. Suddenly her cockiness turned into concern, and she gently shook the captain with a hoof.

 

"Friend, are you well?" She muttered, nudging Caramel gently, jumping back as Wilhelm dumped water all over her. "I should take her to her bed, she looks unwell."

 

With that, the puny powerhouse hoisted the pegasus onto her back and dutifully carried her down below, entering the captain's room to plop her on the bed.

violet saw the little duel, and thought about how much fun that must'v been. she also got concerned when caramel collapsed, but she was sure she'll be fine. she was in the crows nest, and she was ready for deadmare pass, eager to show her skills to her friends. she stared out to the wide open sea, spotting nothing of interest. "flare? do you think i could win against Tyra?" the phoenix gave a confused caw. "yeah, we haven't seen her full strength yet, but still..."

Caramel open her eyes again as Tyra was carrying Caramel to her bed. "Woah what happened? Never mind, I remember. Ye can put me down, no need for me to go to bed." she said as she jumped of Tyra's back. "That's a nice punch ye got there, I didn't see it coming. I knew yer were strong but not that strong." Caramel said as she sat down on her bed. She shook her head so that her wet mane would dry a bit. "It's been a long time since I had such challenging fight, even if it was a short fight. Aye, next time I'll win." Caramel said with a smile.

Tyra breathed a sigh of relief as Caramel came to life and hopped off her back. She hadn't caused any real damage, it seems.

 

"I am sorry," she frowned, her ears and seemingly the wings on her helmet lowering, "I did not mean for to you to be knocked out so badly."

 

She smirked back at her claim. "We shall see, eh?" She stood loyally to attention. "If you require anything, do not hesitate to ask!"

"Don't be sorry, I can get knocked out pretty easy in this state when ye hit at the right angle so it's not entirely yer fault. I feel much better thanks to you actually. Even thou my head hurt a lot, I feel like have more energy than ever." she said with a smile. "Let's go have a drink shall we. Ye know with the deadmares cross coming our way, this might be our last change to have a decent drink."

Tyra perked up, happy that Caramel wasn't mad at her, and even moreso at getting another drink.

 

"Aye!" She yelled, bouncing on her hooves a bit, and the two mares began walking back out toward the kitchen.

 

She frowned up at Caramel's pessimism about Deadmares Cross. "Do not have such little confidence; we are all a strong group, and we shall all conquer this Deadmares Cross together!"

 

A confident smirk crossed her face. "And if that monster rears its head, you may leave it to me!"

Rave turned his head towards Tyra. He did not know if that was actual bravery or just foolishness. However, he decided not to go question her about it. He looked back in the direction of Deadmares cross. His face hardened a little bit. "Do your worst" he whispered, seemingly towards the cross. "Because I shall do mine".

"I know that we will get through this together, I just meant that were almost out of drinks and we probably don't have enough time to drink when we're fighting monsters." she said with a smile. "Can ye get the drinks, I'll call the rest of the crew. Ask them if they wanna drink with us. Caramel took a deep breath so that she could shout with her loudest voice "EVERYPONY, we're drinking tonight, if ye want some, we're in the kitchen. Be quick cause this may be the last time we get to drink together!!"

Tyra saluted with a grin and went to the kitchen, hoisting a heavy rum barrel onto her back and effortlessly carrying it out to the table.

 

While she was there, she decided to fill up a mug for herself before joining the others.

"I hope that monster rears its ugly head," she smirked, taking a large gulp, "so that I may take it off!"

violet flew down, and claimed a whole barrel for herself. "yup!" she said happily, as she began to chug it, "i, too, hope this pushes us to our limits!" as she was drinknig the mead, the tell-tale drunk blush appeared on her cheeks. flare was eating his stash of cookies from the night before.

Rave started walking away, giving the direction one last look before going down below decks. He arrived in the kitchen. "I don't think I will drink again since I'm a little bit susceptible to drinking. I get easily drunk. Perhaps just water, if there is any?" he asked.

Wilhelm smiled at Rave. "Exactly my thoughts. Crazy pirates." He handed Rave a mug of simple water with a touch of lemon juice, and turned back to preparing his habitual tea, humming an aria from some obscure opera as he worked.
