gaming Has Minecraft REALLY gotten worse?

I keep seeing people all over te internet complaining about Minecraft and how it's "gotten worse".

They ALWAYS seem to blame the newer updates for ruining the game.

My Thoughts:

Well if you're the one complaining about the current version of Minecraft and how you liked it back in the old days of the game, I've got one simple question for you.

Are you fucking blind?

There was an update at least a year ago that made so you could change your version back to the older ones in the game.

They even aloud you to go back to the beta, alpha, and indev versions.

Not to mention snapshots too.

I believe Mojang made this update to satisfy the nostalgic fans who were complaining about the game and how it used to be.

But even TODAY people complain about how Minecraft used to be and how they wish they just left the game alone back in the beta days.

There is absolutely NO point to this argument anymore ever since Mojang made the update.

But is the current version REALLY all that bad?

Personally, I think it's gotten better.

There has been so many cool and unique features added to the game that make creativity and exploration more fun.

So what if you don't like the dungeons in the game?

Guess what?

You don't have to go looking for them.

You can just stay on land and build whatever the hell you want.

Unless you're you're looking for specific items, then you have no reason to go dungeon crawling.

Another thing I hate is when people judge the game strictly by it's multiplayer.

I understand that servers have been a bit over-crowded lately and there's a crap load perversion in the chat (in fact i could make a shit-list of things wrong with the average mc server).

I get that.

But don't judge the game strictly on it's multiplayer servers.

That's like judging a game on it's community.

Oh wait... that's EXACTLY what it is.

I've come to the conclusion, that the Minecraft community is getting worse, not the actual game.

And it's actually really sad to see something like this happen.

The MC community is now full of squeakers, trolls, and perverts, when it once was filled with mature teens and adults.

How did this happen?

This game was SUPPOSED to be age-neutral.

And now I can't wear a Minecraft t-shirt outside my house without getting dirty looks.

Though not all the community is bad.

The content that it still produces is still very creative.

From mods to resource packs to maps, at least the community hasn't lost all it's glory.

All in all, in my opinion, Minecraft was and still is a good game.

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

I used to like Minecraft quite a bit for a few months, though now I'm mostly over the game. Do I think it's gotten worse? Not really, in most ways it's technically gotten better from what I've played and seen of the more recent versions, but do I like the older ones better? Yeah, I kinda do.

The reason for that is pretty simple...Atmosphere. The newer updates changed a lot, adding in enchantments and potions that can make you even more powerful, you can now sprint to escape enemies, and block to lessen damage. There's now "The end" which counts as a sort of end point even if it's just optional, villagers and villages to make the world seem less lonely, the nights are brighter and not as dark...The game has a completely different feel and atmosphere to it. It doesn't feel so lonely, it doesn't feel so dangerous, it doesn't feel so mysterious to me anymore.

Back in the past, the game almost felt a bit like a survival horror, where the horror relied entirely on the isolation, and what your imagination could come up with, telling you almost nothing. It was a really cool atmosphere that made the game a lot of fun, and most of what was added recently stripped it of that. The updates on a technical level made the game better, but for me they removed the "Feeling" of the game I enjoyed so much.

I'm a weird minority though, my feelings on the game seem to not be echoed by basically anyone else, and I'm talking entirely about the Single-player, as I enjoyed that more than multi-player for the beautiful, but lonely atmosphere it had. Building and changing the landscape was fun, but that atmosphere made it feel special to me.

So, has the game gotten worse? No, it just went in a direction that doesn't fit my vision of the game I wanted, that's fine. I can go back to play older versions, I'm just kinda sad I can't get a version of the game that was updated in the direction I would have liked.

I still play and love minecraft. Now that there are things like sheep dropping food and rabbits etc. I prefer the game to previous versions. The updates have served it well. Minecraft realms seems like a great idea (I haven't tried it). Only £8 a MONTH to get a server only you and the people you choose can access. Plus that money is likely to go to improving the game, so overall that's only going to improve you and your friends experience.

My absolute favorite version of Minecraft was beta 1.7, when they actually introduced pistons.

The problem isn't that Minecraft has gotten worse, it's that I outgrew it and found much better games. If I actually cared about Minecraft enough to still play it I'd go back to beta 1.7. But now every time I play Minecraft I stick with the current version and play in multiplayer. The game is simply too boring otherwise, and beta 1.7 is no different.

I dunno, I think I just burnt out on it and played it until it had no replay value to me. I mean there are times where Im like "man, I really want to build something" and I get on for like 5 minutes and then bail. I like some of the new additions, but others I could've lived without.

I don't think it's getting worse. It is getting more and more advanced if anything. I just think I payed it too much back in 2012-2013-ish. I think I have burnt out on it for a good while. That and I don't have many friends who actually play it anymore.

I used to play Minecraft. I stopped only because I began to grow bored of it and the only thing that fixed that were mods which I had to triple check to make sure they were safe and took a ton of work (for me since I know nothing about computers) to install. I also stopped because the game was somehow making me sick (yes, nauseous for whatever twisted reason) and I don't blame the game for that. But it's a good game that I still support on the inside. From the game updates that I hear about from people who know the game, only sounds like it's getting better.

Minecraft will not fall today. It will rise from the ashes like a phoenix and spread it's wings to ride on the winds of change. Good luck to everyone involved.

I don't think it has gotten worse, Imo the game itself has improved. I do however feel the quality of many minecraft servers has declined. Hard to blame that on the game itself evolving though.

Well... I've only played it in bursts, and recently got the game myself. One thing I'm really upset about, is me being on mobile, I can't get the mod Mine Little Pony for it. *Sigh* we all have our struggles... :) But I personally find it quite entertaining, maybe the updates are slowing it down for some, but come on, they're updates! Of course they will. :P But other then that, what the hay could make it worse?

I personally think Minecraft has actually gotten better over the years (although I haven't played it in the past few months). Of course, I realize that some of the newer aspects aren't for everyone.

Fortunately, the beauty of Minecraft is that it only as complex as you allow it to become. You can be content with a small farm, or build giant castles with working doors.

Like most here, I think the game has gotten better. Unlike most, I mainly played the PE edition. I played the game a lot at one point but then I moved on.

What I think has gotten worse is the age range kinda. When Stampylongnose came along, the idea of a child friendly minecraft let's player didnt exist. Now walk into any place with some child playing on an iPad and that game is surely Minecraft. Now there's Minecraft Lego sets, shirts and plushies available in your local toy store. Now I'm not dissing Stampy, he has his place. But if he didnt come along, minecraft probably would still be played only by a certain kind of people. As someone I know said once Stampy is a 'Gate way Drug' for many 7 years olds to the world of Minecraft. Then after Stampy, they move on to Skydoesminecraft because he is So mature.

Then maybe then they move onto CaptainSparlez, though that happens rarely.

I don't think its gotten worse... though... the fact that you can switch versions to beta and such... I tried that and the only reason I did was to get the old sounds when you got hurt... (kinda disappointed that it wasn't there)

in my opinion minecraft is still a pretty good game. worth paying 26$ for (did the price change..?) :rarity:

I feel like the jouyous simplicity was removed in the Adventure Update. However, in the new 1.8 version, I feel like it's now deep enough to be just as good as Beta 1.7 was, just in a different kind of way.

I don't think it has gotten worse at all, it has just been over-saturated because now it is everywhere. All over the internet, all over stores with merchandise, not to mention the amount of random Minecraft stuff on Youtube. So maybe quite a few people have gotten tired of it.

I do still enjoy it though. I think the vanilla experience has only gotten better since they are adding more and more to do. I hope they keep doing that.
