How did you find MLP Forums?: Google

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Trying to figure this out

Hi

I'm a mom of a 12 yr old boy who has called himself a Brony for a while now. And like most people, I had a fear of the MLP world etc. He just had me watch the documentary and it left me with some questions. I understand that a Brony is typically an adult male. Initially the show was created for girls. Both of which I'm fine with. But, in the Doc. There was the one 13 year old which showed his struggle with his father excepting MLP. I'm having a hard time finding a place where boys 14 and under can participate and find other boys whose interest is like his. He has no problem telling people at school he's a Brony and thankfully everyone has been excepting, though there are no other Bronies.

Does anyone have any suggestions, links etc for his age group? Or a Bronycon type of thing on geared towards boys his age?

Thank you!

first of all... welcome to the forums~! if you want to talk with anyone feel free to PM us~ :fluttershy:

im 15 here... (not technically an adult  :rarity:)  dunno about anybody else here... and sorry to be picky but not  every brony is  an adult male.  I mean, most of us may be adults but there is a large chunk of the fandom being teenagers or younger than 14. and well... the fandom is a welcoming place~ filled with friendly people :). also your son could join any brony site (especially this one) since a brony is a brony no matter what ago you are.  :muffins:

edit: I forgot to add this... if you haven't heard of it or not.. but there are these bronies called cloppers. ... that's where most of our negative replies from people come from. only like 1% of bronies clop... so please don't stereotype us :(

Hello!

I'll be one of the first to admit that the whole brony thing can be a little weird, or in some cases, a lot. But overall, it also seems to be one of the most accepting communities I've found at times.  :) After all, a lot of what attracted people to it in my own opinion is the level of acceptance and friendship it tries to teach people, all the while keep things innocent and lighthearted. A far cry from what most guys are kinda thought to like, but hey, it's something we can see the appeal in too.

But yeah, sometimes the whole brony thing conflicts so hard with the image of how a male should be nowadays that people are given grief over it, so I'm glad to hear your son's experience has been going well with that!

Honestly, just being open about it at school would've likely been one of the best, if slightly risky image-wise steps to take. Sadly it's sometimes hard to find other people with an interest in the show, since it often relies on mutual knowledge of that, and at least one person (in this case, people besides your son?) willing to step forward. And, I'm not sure where the demographic lies with that--while a lot of older fans exists, many on the forums here are around 13-16 too.  :) Regardless, there are still places online, conventions, and sometimes local groups where he can meet people ideally. I currently live on my college campus, and we recently had a Brony club legitimized--before that though, it was an 'unofficial' club of people that live on campus or nearby that just got together every week.

If you 'really' want to go the con route, there's actually several across the US, so looking around should yield some results.  ;) So long as a parent is with a younger con-goer, there should be some interesting stuff to see, if you can tolerate the wierdness of it all. But like I said, bronies tend to be highly friendly and accepting overall~

Though, for something more local/frequent, you may have to do some digging, or hope other fans of the show start cropping up and approaching your son. Or, as I said, there's places online too, such as this forum or others.  ...Though I think this specific forum is technically for 13+ years of age.

If you have any questions about the fandom in general, feel free to ask around!  :)  Also, welcome to the forum!

Hi Lulubell! I'm Destiny, it's nice to meet you! Welcome to the forums. I think it's great that you want to learn more about your son's like of the show. :)

I'm not quite sure about any particular conventions that are specifically geared towards a younger Brony fanbase.

Here's a link of conventions happening in 2015, maybe that'll help?: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2015/02/convention-guide-for-2015-worldwide.html

Welcome to MLP Forums, Lulubell! I'm glad you have such concern for your son! I don't want to get down on anybody's hopes, here, but I don't think there's really anywhere he can go or anyone he can talk to at the moment, but wait until he's thirteen, and he'll be old enough to join MLP Forums! Anyway, we all hope you enjoy your stay here, and we hope you learn as much about the brony fandom as you can! The Show Discussion and Debate Pit (under General Discussion in the Everfree Forest section, unlocks after a certain number of posts) boards are good places to get a foothold in figuring out brony brains, and the Forum Games section is a fun place to hang out. Check out the fan art sections under Octavia's Hall for awesome drawings and other arts!

See you around!

Welcome to the forum! YAY!

I hope that you'll come to share your sons interest in the show, and the brony community!  :muffins:

As for the forum itself, if you have any questions, concerns, or experience any issues, please feel free to let us know by creating a thread in the Site Questions & Tech Support section, so we can get you answers, assurances, and/or solutions!  :muffins:

Now, regarding your post;

Personally, I consider all fans bronies. This includes a number of people who don't enjoy the show, but do enjoy fan created music, videos, art, etc. That does not necessarily mean that they themselves identify as such.

As far as cons go, I've only been to my first one recently, but it was very friendly, and there were people of all ages, with their friends, or children, etc. I think if you just find a reputable one to go to, you'll be set.

Also, as soon as he's 13, your son is welcome here as well. We're always glad to have another member join the herd.  ;)

I know it wasn't much, in the way of information, but I hope that helps some~

Nice to see a parent taking an interest in their childs interests. Even though there are many adults on this forum (I'm 26/female), ladies consider themselves bronies too. We're a very mature, friendly group of people, and bullies and cruel people are dealt with quickly. I found the forum through google, and by reputation as so many people I knew said they liked it. This is my favorite forum because people are very kind to each other even if we disagree sometimes. I'd recommend you monitor some of the art sites your child visits though, but deviantart is a fairly safe art community if that is something of interest your kid has. Feel friend to message or friend me if you have any concerns at all.
