Is MLP Really Flawless?

No show is perfect, and MLP is an example of that. Yes it is very good and it's currently my #1 cartoon series, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws.

What doesn't though. Another great show by the name of Steven Universe has it's flaws but that does nothing to hurt it's brilliance. :)

The literal only thing that would irk my OCD would be their continuity. They're obviously to hipster for continuity.

What do you think of me?:

Of course not. As others have already said, MLP has several glaring holes:

  • The characters are round, but not dynamic. To elaborate, while the characters may be deep, they don't change/grow much throughout the series.
  • Plot. Many episodes have had interesting concepts, but the episode itself falls flat, usually do to poor pacing.
  • Continuity. The show frequently has events that contradict other events, and oftentimes, characters learning the same lessons several times over.

This being said, the show is still quite good, and I do enjoy it. No show is flawless, but they can still be considered good.

Certainly not. My biggest complaint with MLP is the songs. Some are good, but most of time they are just a waste of time. I'd much rather have more plot and character development in place of a song. EQG2 especially annoyed me with the drawn-out songs and plot intertwined, but I guess I should've expected that from a music-based plot.

Sometimes I cringe when characters do stupid things, but I guess that's what the show's about, that is, learning lessons, so I can let that pass.

As we all know, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a..well...pretty darn amazing show, but are there really any reasons MLP could be a bad show in some people's eyes?

I really can't think of any, and it fascinates me. Could this show really be flawless in every reguard?

Depends on what you classify as "flaw".

The classification varies from person to person.

No.

Nothing is flawless. There is not a single thing on Earth that is universally liked.

A show about pastel-coloured horses which has some minor animation errors is no exception.

The show was great in the earlier seasons, but somehow, I feel as though the magic from first watching the show was lost on me. So in that sense, MLP is not flawless. We think it's flawless because of the emotion of seeing something really cool initially.

Granted, I still like MLP tons. But I need a break from watching the show. Will probably get back to it next week or something.

I love the show but I can think of some:

  • The characters tend to remain static, they learn a lesson only to have to relearn it again and again
  • The humor really sucks to me so it could suck to others as well
  • The songs could be annoying to them
  • They may not find a single character they like/find them uninteresting
  • When episodes are bad, they're pretty bad
  • The animation style may just look awkward to them
  • They may just not like it overall, some people don't need a reason to dislike something if they just happen to get bored or are uninterested by it

I have several shows I like better than MLP, including Steven Universe and Gravity Falls so it's far from perfect, nothing is perfect.

Yeah, I agree with this lovely fellow--except the humor part, I love the humor!--and also, there's the fact that it aired with the target audience of little girls. It's unfair to stereotype a show just because of that, but most people do it anyway. They might not be able to overcome that prejudice, but that's okay, I think. They can go on their merry ways, and we'll go along ours.

No, FiM is not without flaws, either subjective, or objective. One glaring objective flaw the show has (Though, to be fair, it's VERY common in cartoons in general :sunny: , AND it's been tonned down in subsequent seasons  :smug: ), is using the trope of the protagonist centered morality:

Many of those examples are here:

Such a question is subjective, so it is impossible to say with certainty that it is or isn't flawless. Existential thinking aside, it is obviously not flawless. Anyone can nitpick, and there are LOADS of things in MLP to nitpick, some of which are superficial, others of which are glaring problems.

Not at all. Not every episode is the cream of the crop, and too many episodes are factually bad. If every episode is that great, then people wouldn't have derided episodes like Rainbow Falls, Filli Vanilli, Keep Calm and Flutter On, and Boast Busters.
