Steel Accord 6,660 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 Wolves, or Steel Confessors - I'm jaded against the Codex Astartes and the changes brought about with the lore redux in 5th edition. As for your second question, yes. But a little exaggeration is good for the soul, especially if it inspires you to do better. Well I haven't kept up with them so I'll just take your word for it. I'd be a Company Champion for the Blood Angels, Salamanders, or Ultramarines. Agreed, I just wanted to make sure. I respect your zeal for an uplifting spirituality and wish more people had it. I can't stand the cynics, the martyrs, and the nihilists; we need more people that are willing to stand up and cry like Rainbow Dash, "I'm awesome, throw all of your hatred at me, it will not crush my spirit!" (Okay maybe Rainbow wouldn't put it quite as formally but you get my idea.) I haven't heard of Taosim. I'll have to look it up! You haven't? It ties into Buddhism at many points, in fact, "Zen Buddhism" is a sect that contains the lessons of both. 1 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Miles 2,514 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 Is there any other religion/spirituality that tells you that you are capable of doing something and that you are good? Because every other belief system I have seen just plain craps on you and your worldview. You're either a sinner or a fool or unenlightened. The Imperial Creed revels in the fact that Humanity can go and do good without being shackled by fear and superstition. *Halt!* Christianity does not say that we are incapable of doing good. You misinterpret what it means to say: "We are all sinners" That does not mean we are all destined to be incapable of doing good; does not mean that we are all scum! Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” As Christians, we follow the teachings of The Messiah; Our Saviour; Jesus Christ. He says to LOVE everyone. I promise with total honesty that I normally never use the "this is objective" argument, because 99% of things are pretty much subjective. But... Love is objectively good. ~ Miles 1 ~ Rise And Rise Again, Until Lambs Become Lions ~
Steel Accord 6,660 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 (edited) @@Miles, @@Sintanan, Dude, ceasefire I just talked to Sintanan about this. It was a humorous (if darkly so) exaggeration that was in-keeping with the source material of Warhammer 40K where he pulls the symbol and indeed the rhetoric of the God-Emperor. No need to get on his case for essentially a George Carlin joke. Let's try and make this one of those examples of the Brony fandom where we talk subject matter other fandoms call taboo in a manner that is friendly and educational for all sides shall we? Sintanan 151 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 (edited) So, joke or not, I hold my stance. you are coming off as harsh to someone who might not deserve it. Gentlemen, I am no fluffy animal easy to bruise. I appreciate the defense, Accord, but it is not needed. It was not a joke, but it was an exaggeration. I've studied Christianity about the same as any other faith, and while the teachings are subjective, the fact exists that Exodus 20:5 does indeed say the future generations will suffer for the sins of their progenitor simply because God is a jealous being. But I digress, I will not derail this thread by continuing this here. The exaggeration indeed served my purpose in quickly describing the Imperial Creed and its benefits over other faith - the same as any who would preach their belief. If you would like to continue this discussion, I would be more than willing to do so in a different thread or private conversation. I also realized I forgot to answer your question on which rank I would hold. If I joined the Steel Confessors I would be a Techmarine, or possibly a Chaplain; for Space Wolves, a Runepriest. I haven't heard of Taosim. I'll have to look it up! There was a neat book I came across before called the "Tao of Pooh", where it compares the personalities and actions of the characters in the Whinny the Pooh stories to the teachings of Taoism. It was definitely an interesting read, as it presents the fundamentals of Taoism in easy to digest segments. The book does get a little preachy, and does repeat itself, but it was a good way to pass time slowly reading it. The exaggeration indeed served my purpose in quickly describing the Imperial Creed and its benefits over other faith - the same as any who would preach their belief. Again, speak for yourself. I would never presume to call another's faith false or inferior to Christianity and have been raised that the best way one "preaches" one's faith in God is just by being a good person. I also realized I forgot to answer your question on which rank I would hold. If I joined the Steel Confessors I would be a Techmarine, or possibly a Chaplain; for Space Wolves, a Runepriest. Why those positions? I would be a Company Champion for any of my three chapters because they train to be specialists in single combat and bodyguards to the Chaplains or Captains and I always like the idea of being a person's appointed protector/enforcer. SpiderDiscord 145 May 18, 2015 Author Share May 18, 2015 @Sintanan @Miles @Steel Accord :v I didn't mean for this topic to cause conflict I'm so sorry!! But as I have mentioned before this is supposed to be about spirituality, not religion. I know religion can become a very touchy and controversial subject :cAny nerdling games tend to cause heated debate as well unfortunately. Off topic but I remember having fun playing Magic with some friends, but they are now ex-friends since they would take the game so seriously they would yell and argue over rules and even verbally attack someone if they forgot to take their own life points or something, honest little mistakes -sigh- It's over now tho c: (that pooh book sounds so cool I wouldn't have thought they would go over something like that! They have so many wonderful stories~)

This is what I mean when I say them Religion is an institution established by man for various reasons. All have Churches and organized holidays. Spirituality is born in a person and develops in the person. It may be kick started by a religion, or it may be kick started by a revelation. Spirituality extends to all facets of a person’s life. "extends to all facets of a person’s life." I would call that the most hard, secular definition of religion. It is your thread though and I will work with your definition of both going forward. 1 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Sintanan 151 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 just glad things seemed to have calmed down tho It was never heated to begin with? Why those positions? Runepriests for the lorekeeping and crafting. Same with Techmarine, as their role is to maintain and improve the technology used by the Astartes to protect humanity. Chaplain because those sick helmets. 2 For anyone wanting to make use of my character in their roleplaying, <a href='http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/synth-tannin-r8033'class='bbc_url' title=''>here</a> is his info. Sintanan 151 May 18, 2015 Share May 18, 2015 Ultimately, my faith is closely tied to the teachings of the Imperial Creed in that humans are awesome and can do amazing things, however I also practice the live and let live of Taoism, so it takes a -lot- to antagonize me. Well then, at least by the definition the OP laid out (see last page), then yes. Religion to me, is more all inclusive. On that subject though, if there was a Buddhist, Hindu, or other faith with meditation as part of its practice, do you think you would consider joining it? Why did you start meditating to begin with?
