I mean. If the ponies were anthro.

What would the storyline be?

Who will be the main characters and rivals?

How many arcs would there be?

Would death and heavy action would be displayed.

What kind of anime would it be?

And how many seasons would it have?

Use your imagination! :D

I could think of one of two storylines: The Great Changeling Wars or The Tyranny of King Sombra. If not those, then I would picture it as a slice of life anime.

I could see the Mane 6 still, but the ones they have either met or have had confrontation with could be the rivals. Rainbow vs. Lightning Dust, Twilight vs. Trixie or Sunset Shimmer, Rarity vs. Suri, and so on. Each with their own individual rival storylines. :D and perhaps some side stories of friendship between them and others. Think of it like FiM now but they dedicate entire arcs for backstory and connections between a few different characters.

I think there would at least be 7 or 8 arcs total for the main characters. 1 each for their story and rivalries and friend making, the others for the finishing touches to their overall stories together. If those numbers make any sense that is.

I think it would be a slice of life, if not then maybe a dramatic story with a lot of comedic stuff and light hearted ness from some of the characters.

As for seasons...hard to say. Maybe 4-5 at least. There could be a lot to cover. :3

As you can tell I am not the most creative when it comes to anime.

My Little Desu~

If Friendship is Magic were truly a legit anime, it would be almost exactly like Equestria Girls, except with a lot less Bratz and a lot more moe moe.

Well Rainbow Dash would be a lot more badass and be dead by episode 12 at the very latest spurring the rest of the Mane 6 to take up her mantle against the evil anit-Harmony Brigade with their giant mechas and end with Fluttershy unlocking the full potential of her anger in the finale against the The Mega Chaos Leader Supreme before proceeding to battle him for 5 minutes over the course of the next 62 episodes.

Spike has nose bleeds at the presence of Rarity.

Rarity will overexaggerate her unfortunate position with a hazy background.

Chrysalis laughs with her hand near her mouth.

Rainbow Dash is a flat chested tomboy that gets pissed when someone mentions it.

  • Much larger fanbase
  • Would explore more themes because most likely would not be for little girls only
  • Characters would be a bit more fleshed out
  • We would see some actual sad scenes or maybe even deaths in the show because it would be more mature

I can't think of anything else right now but I guess that it could be a much better show than the one we have right now if it is made right. If they keep the characters in their pony forms or human forms wouldn't matter that much but I think the anime would go with human characters.

Why anthro? An anime version of the ponies sounds a lot more interesting to me. We could see more development of the characters more, we could visit more places in Equestria as well as places outside of it, we could see more creatures and non pony races, and it could have more mature themes that the actual show wouldn't do.

The anime TV series could either go two ways. 1. It could have the majority of the series being slice of life and comedy and the adventure based stories being a couple episodes each. 2. There could be two types of arcs, major and filler. The major arcs being individual stories, filled with adventure, having some action as well as a share of dark and sad moments, and would have their own villains. The filler arcs being all the slice of life and comedy episodes, some having a little adventure in them.

One arc could be about a war between Equestria and the Griffon Empire. Another could be when the mane 6 (including Spike) get sent to Earth (not Canterlot High) by some unknown magic and they get to stay in Megan's house, while at first being hunted down by the government until they learn that the ponies aren't dangerous.

On top of having an ongoing series, there would be movies, OVAs, TV specials, and short films. The movies being full length adventure stories, the OVAs being side stories, the TV special being stories about characters taking place outside the series' main timeline, and the short films being random stories that would have connection to the anime.

If MLP FIM was an anime you would basically get this:

So basically less slice of life and more magical girl elements.  Not that I am complaining of course.

I would be curious to check it out to see what it would offer as an animate program.  What would stay the same and what would have to change would be interesting to see.

Plus another popular cartoon that Lauren Faust was involved in got an anime series too..

and seeing how FIM also is confirmed to have 6 seasons and a theatrical movie just like the Powerpuff Girls did, I have to wonder when/if it is it going to get it's own anime series as well.

At first blush, this would seem to be redundant with the original Friendship is Magic series. However, if it did feature ponies that were "Japanified" with classic anime style and tropes, I think it would be awesome.

Akira Himekawa blends the original Western style with a Japanese interpretation for the official MLP Manga, and what results is both cool and adorable.

Well, honestly it wouldn't be too much different from the show as is. I mean, Anime shows can be slice of life too. I think what you (OP) mean is what would FIM be like if it was a shonen anime.

Anyways, I think it would be rather similiar but more magical girlish like how Equestria girls as a series has been. As such, there'd probably be far more focus on the EOH as macguffins, possibly with more macguffins thrown in emphasizing other traits the mane six have. The plots would ressemble ones from the comic more like the chrysalis and nightmarity arc, with the mane six going on quests to stop villains.

As this would be a more actionish series, they'd probably want to focus on the mane six's desires in life and try and find links between what they do for "Jobs" and being heroes. I mean, Rarity is a fashion designer after all, and Applejack is just a farmer, yeah? Kind of not the kind of ponies that you'd have spending their lives fighting monsters. As such, you'd probably want to do some stuff like the Applejack/mayor mare comic, which focused on how Applejack's passion in life also includes helping others, which extends to the town: focus on how, while she likes to run her farm, her passion in life extends to where she'd be just as happy watching out for others in her free time too.
Rainbow dash and Twilight probably wouldn't be too hard to finangle, what with their backgrounds in life (Hell, with Rainbow dash and her daring do hero focus lately, you could probably have her decide she'd rather be an adventurer "hero" rather than a wonderbolt without too much trouble anyways), and pinkie's just happy to be with her friends.

Anyways, the focus on the EOH as macguffins would probably lend itself to a digimon adventure setup, like how the kids had their crests, yeah? Have an initial arc after they get the EOH where the main villain tries to send small lackeys to undermine and defeat the mane six, have an episode showcasing why one of hte mane six exemplifies a trait, and then at the end have their EOH activate and empower them to defeat the monster.
Hell, the Digivolution thing would lend itself well to the EOH as well. have the mane six assume magical girl forms when they utilize their EOH of increasing Bling, with them having different levels of power from their EOH for both more toys and more escalation.

I really like how some anime puts both slice of life into the action as in the slice of life themes are a part of the action. And they just come together so well.

Granted the ponies don't need their faces to have the stereotypical anime look. In Sonic X, the characters looked just like in the artwork for the Sonic Adventure games. In here the ponies' faces can have their own interesting look, not too anime-ish and not too much like the TV show.

As for the anime itself, I'd like it to be its own canon, just like the comics. Also, It can have Twilight being a unicorn instead of an alicorn.

Twilight Sparkle's father Star Swirl the Bearded would develop a magical item that would allow her to change between Earth Pony, Unicorn, Pegasus, and Alicorn mode. She can also change her colors, cutie mark, mane and tail style, and generate clothes. She's aided by Flash Sentry along with his father and younger brother who fight over each other for TS love.

Rarity the villain sends goons to chase after Twilight Sparkle to get that magical item and are responsible for killing TS father.
