Still feel uneasy about the term "brony"

@@SpiderDiscord,

I believe we talked about this.

Those wretched pieces of human refuse were not bronies. Bronies are welcoming and practice what the show preaches. Any person failing in those qualities is not a true brony, just a fan of the show, even then they shouldn't be because it stands in direct opposition to how they act and the Mane Six would be ashamed of them.

The term brony truly means: adult fan of Friendship is Magic, who is passionate about the show, its characters, and its messages.

yes we did c: just needed more input since still was feeling uneasy around here when I realize there was no reason to. Just me still being prejudice based off of my bad experiences/witnessings

so wanted that last little nudge to help calm me into helping my subconscious see that it's ok here

LOL! In my experience, bronies are NOTHING like what that woman described. Her first mistake was using tumblr. :P I only use this forum and read the comments from Equestria Daily and with both I have seen nothing but respectful people. (with the exception of the rare troll)

p.s. I don't really know what tumblr is like. :adorkable:

who? me? am I 'that woman'

Honestly whenever I went on EQD before all I saw was molestia, murdershy ...and i forget the others...but some idea :/

was brought to my attention that i just have shot luck

been leaving eqd open and di notice that I am just unlucky

But tumblr i guess is like any other community online, just gotta know where to look/go to see the good stuff (non hostile stuff)

tho some do sound harsh during personal bad days, then apologize later and then are fine

Also I'm sorry but this is what I was talking about with "triggering". It's a legitimate psychiatric issue which causes major problems. Using it to describe stuff that makes you feel bad makes it a joke, because nobody will be able to tell if you're talking about PTSD triggers or " I didn't find that particularly nice " triggers.

(Is just something that gets on my nerves is all)

OH NO

Don't want to do that at all!!

I guess i'll just use the wording "____ tends to cause this auto emotion/thought for me"

or idk if you have suggestions

Says you. The show and fandom changed my life and many have expressed exactly what I just said, so in my experience, anyone failing in those categories is not a brony and I would not understand what a vile person sees in a show so much about positivity.

Plus, "like the show" and "cult" a fandom is somewhere in the middle socially.

Well the fandom started on 4chan so I can kind of see how the term doesn't only apply to nice people xD

But we've evolved beyond that, especially since bronies weren't welcomed on 4chan because of their positivity in contrast to the typical users vulgarity!

4chan has a specific board (/mlp/) for bronies (Or whatever they want to call themselves, horsefuckers or whatevers in now)

And they aren't welcomed because they shitposted everywhere to piss off the rest of the users xD

Then they clearly aren't bronies because it's not even about the show, just annoying people and somehow finding that amusing.

Its about the fandom and the show. They annoyed people on 4chan by shitposting, but they also enjoyed the show.

Still part of the fandom, no matter how much you dislike them. Just something you're going to have to deal with xD

No I meant the person in your quote. And about Molestia and Murdershy: Yeah, EQD does have its share of creepy or violent things sometimes. But that's the internet for ya. Just gotta ignore it and move on I guess, and/or get used to it. x) I'm fine with Molestia and I don't remember ever seeing anything violent on EQD. Maybe I'm just used to it and haven't put any thought on it. *shrug*

possibly

Taking advantage of someone for pleasure is harmful and still not really accepted as a violent act (might be legally, but not so much socially)

So jokes about it is terrifying... I mean people legit get hurt physically/emotionally for life from it, so to put the into a cute little kids show is horrible. Should be setting an example to kid to not do these things instead of treating it like it's a normal, whatever thing to joke about...

sorry went off... just... really wish legitimately harmful subjects were not joked about like that since it tends to make them look like no big deal (murder is a different story since society already agrees that is a no)

I have trouble looking the other way in serious topics like that

But I don't blame ya

r*** gets treated as a joke/not serious thing unless it is a physical struggle :/

so it becomes more than the act that hurts the victim, it's all the victim blaming and victim jokes

I completely understand why you have an uneasy feeling about the term brony when you associate it with the things you mentioned. I do see a lot of bad behavior when I'm not careful about which sites I go to. And even when I'm on sites I consider for the most part safe, I sometimes see nasty attitudes.

bad attitudes are kinda everywhere tho sadly :/

But is good to practice pretending they don't exist and ignore them (idk why but not acknowledging someone for their poor behavior more of than not tends to be more effective they trying to talk back)

I kind of feel kind of uneasy because I watch other shows besides FiM and it doesm't consume my whole life so I wouldn't call myself a full on brony.

And? Avatar would be my favorite cartoon of all time, doesn't mean I love this show less. Being a brony doesn't mean this is the ONLY thing you do, just something that contributes to you.

You know a lot of this can be chalked up to individual experience because the only truly nasty, so called bronies, I've ever encountered happened on one site. Everywhere else online and in real life, they've been universally what we have here.

So the term is something I wear with pride because it marks me as a member of a community that is supportive, loving, and welcoming and in patronage to a kick ass show.

Breath bro. As posted above, there are negative and positive things that come with the fandom. I understand the skepticism and probable inclination of avoiding the fandom. Unfortunately as a society we've adopted this idea of boys should like boy things, and girls should like girly things. We "bronies" or fans of the show are hypocritical when we don't think things though, we potentially and inevitably cause ourselves to be shown as bad or corrupt. We good bronies are shoved to the background and are ignored. This gives us our infamous bad name. I go by a strict honor code that many of the good and true bronies go by. Love and tolerance is that code. It's loving everyone for their differences and tolerating their right to like or dislike whatever they please. There are three types of bronies in my opinion:

The normal fan: they buy a couple plushies, shirts and watch the show

The fanboys: these people get in some insane arguments and debates about the show and flip out if you don't agree.

(I'm between one and two)

Then there are the obsessed: these Neanderthals (no offence) are crazy. Consistently telling you to watch the show follow the fan base and if you don't there going to beat you. They are the one that continuously talk about murder and rape and are honestly creepy.

So yeah we have bad and good. But look for the good and expect the bad. You'll never, well almost never go wrong and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble and heartache. And alive cuz well, some of it regularly gives me headaches. And if you don't want to refer yourself as a brony, then don't. What matters is that you are who you want to be. And if someone has a problem with that, well it's a good thing you're not them.

LOL! In my experience, bronies are NOTHING like what that woman described. Her first mistake was using tumblr. :P I only use this forum and read the comments from Equestria Daily and with both I have seen nothing but respectful people. (with the exception of the rare troll)

@@SpiderDiscord, No matter what group of people you associate with, there will always be bad ones.  I find that there's a higher percentage of good, nice people here than in most other places, though.  But geeze, death threats and rape threats?  That is...well, that's very shocking.  Just ignore those people and don't go to those places.  The internet is mostly garbage, sadly.  Just stick to this site, and watch pony videos on youtube, but don't read the comments, and you'll be happy as Rainbow Dash on release day of a new Daring Do book.  I mean, there are some NSFW videos on youtube, but you don't have to watch em.  Oh, and I think Equestria Daily should be fine, too.  I'm sure there's other nice, wholesome sites, but those three are the only ones I ever go to, and I get all the pony I need to satisfy my jonesing.

Well it looks like I've been fortunate enough not to stray too far into "the bad part of town." Part of it may also be because I was a little late to the party- I didn't start looking up MLP stuff online until the beginning of 2014. EQD and this forum are some of the first things I found and have stuck with because there hasn't really been any nonsense. People here seem pretty normal/chill. The worst thing I've personally dealt with is someone on YouTube (I had a thread about it on here somewhere.)  It was about the Michael Morones incident. Click the little swoopy left arrow thingy at the upper right of the grey quote box below to go to the original thread

I was just wondering what was going on with that kid who attempted suicide after being bullied for liking MLP. I guess he has woken up but has serious motor damage. He is 11 so there may be some hope for some recovery. I saw a video that Andrea Libman (V.A. of Pinkie and Fluttershy) stopped by to visit and read in character voice to him. Then I saw this update video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5EUpZaiXVE

I read this comment on there (and a couple response ones)- mind you this YouTube channel is managed by his parents.

"WOW, He is basically screwed for life because he chose to try and kill himself. I cannot feel sorry. For one, because everyone gets bullied in school. That's what school is, a reflection of life ahead, and time to learn. This boy learned he does not have what it takes to take a little criticism. That is weakness. This boy should not be an example of what happens when people get bullied, this child should be a wake up call for all those who think they should try and kill themselves because they think life sucks. If you try and kill yourself and mess up, your basically at risk of being messed up for life! When you think your life is so bad from being bullied, stop. Think. What if you didn't have food to eat? What if your parents beat you mercilessly? What if your brother just joined the guerrilla army and killed your mother? These are facts of life for children outside America. Stop being so selfish, stop thinking of yourself all the time. When someone tries to bully you, SMILE at them. Say i love you. Yes, they will call you a homo, but oh well, be a happy homo, and move on. Love you all, but this kid is a loser. A selfish loser."

I just got really mad because I honestly do think he was serious. I usually don't reply to stuff like this but I really got mad especially since it was on an account run by the kid's parents. In a response comment the person also mentioned that they "LOVE" the show MLP.

My Reply

Seriously? The kid is FREAKING 11 years old. I normally ignore comments like this but I think you may actually be serious. However if you're not serious you're just sick. Why the hell would you even post this especially on an account that his parents run?!

You mention Christianity. I see you certainly aren't, but may delusionally think you are.
[He mentioned in another reply]

This whole situation is bad enough and makes me sick. Then seeing IGNORANT people like you adding salt to to the wound makes me angry.

Again this is an 11 YEAR OLD CHILD- Not an adult- If you think children and adults think the same than you are a MORON. Would it be good to let an 11 year old try to sail around the world alone?
[mentioned because of this persons channel/blog]

IGNORANCE (as bullying) is what caused this.

You seem to put yourself above other people and are IGNORANT. An adult calling an 11 year old "a selfish loser"  - You sir are the real LOSER HERE. Grow up and figure out what your problem is.

People like you make me sick- especially if you actually believe what you are saying and aren't just trolling like a jackass.

--------OTHER REPLY-------------------------

Wow- I missed that, you're ADULT that "loves the show" but CALLS AN 11 YEAR OLD CHILD a SELFISH LOSER?!?! Plus on YouTube channel managed by his PARENTS!?!?
Why do you even watch the show? You clearly have no consideration for others' feelings and aren't getting anything from it.

Congratulations, You've REALLY pissed me off and that is VERY hard to do. I NEVER make replies like this. Kicking people when they're down really AGGRAVATES ME!! Just GTFO and leave this family alone. They have more than enough to deal with without your insults.

I had to post this here too because I just got so mad- which usually never happens. :eww: The person supposedly being a "fan" of MLP and hinting that they are Christian bugged me a lot too (I am and would never think that way).

That's just part of it and I ended the discussion with him by indirectly telling him I hope he runs into a hurricane next time he's out sailing.

Anyway other than that I really haven't had many bad experiences. As for Tumblr, I only go there through links from EQD. I also unfortunately read Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, and part of some Apple Massacre one- but it was too f***ed up to read.

As for the term Brony- I rarely use it online and don't use it offline. I think it's too loaded of a term, and besides, most people (at least people out of high school) offline don't know anything about MLP, let alone what the hell a Brony even is anyway.

When I did a small presentation about my self for example about my hobby and such. I had just started watching the show and started in high school and even if some already sort of knew by seeing the wallpapers on my laptop and well this site. I was so embarrassed for no real reason. I mean I accually excpected atleast someone to laugh a bit but nope no one did. Even tho nobody minded they sort of pretended to be bronies to witch made it worse. They have fortunatly stopped but god damit was it a pain in the ass.

(edit)

My one of my friends said he started watching the show.

Not sure if this helps but it's not a bad story either.

omg I got teary eyed from reading that!

Honestly I told my little bro to turn off comments if anyone starts talking shit on his videos because of jerks like that!

They are like a disease that plagues our lives :v

gross

But yeah I feel Tumblr is like any other site from reading these replies

Gross rude side, and the decent human beings side

just gotta know where to go and how to navigate to avoid em

On Facebook I had friends who posted nasty "get back to the kitchen/ go back to africa" like jokes... I decided one day to just unfriend them instead of avoiding facebook

By newsfeed looks so much nicer now!

I know what you mean. Being 26 I literally grew up with computers as they are now. (late 90's) Dial-up and instant messaging- I DON'T miss those days:

MOM: Who's on the computer?!?! I need the phone!!!

ME: But I'm downloading something! :baconmane:

MOM: TOO BAD!

What I do miss is that trolling and cyber-bullying wasn't a thing, or not nearly as prevalent then.

If I'm somewhere that I see a lot of that going on- I just go somewhere else.
