None of us are perfect. All we can do is try to live up to God's teachings.

Amen to that, bro! That's what this life is for. Live, learn and improve the best we can.

I am open about my atheism. But I am not a person for whom is it important to let everyone know what my believes are. When somebody ask me, what I am, than I say that I am atheist and usually explain why. I never met someone religious who had a problem with my atheism. And I have also no problems with their religious believes.

Normally I'm quite open about my atheism, but I don't tell people who would bother me, if they would know. So there is this exception. Also I try not make a big fuss out of it

Considering I am an Atheist I don't really have anything to be "open" about. Though if people do ever ask I just reply with "I'm an Atheist" and leave it at that.

I’m not very open about it because I fear backlash/harassment but if I didn’t have that fear, then I would want to be very open

So you'd be more open if you were more open?

I'm not criticizing you, just pointing out how it kind of sounds silly when you spell it out. Not everyone has to wear their faith on their sleeve, after all. Your relationship to God doesn't have to be something public.

You make a good point there. I know my fear is silly, I guess I should stop worrying about accidentally causing fights or something because it’s not like I plan on fighting about faith myself.

That's like 80% of it. If you're not looking for a fight, one probably won't find you. You can be open about your faith, like I am, and people won't give you crap over it if you sincerely exercise it. As in, you're trying to be a good person. OR you can just keep it to yourself. Let your actions demonstrate your faith.

"Preach the gospel everyday, and sometimes use words."

St. Francis didn't actually say that, but it's good advice nonetheless.

I try to avoid discussions on religion unless I’ve become close enough to someone to feel comfortable talking about it. It’s lead to far too many fights and arguments.Unless I know the person well enough and know it will stay a respectful conversation I avoid such topics. Not looking to add more stress to my life.

That being said when it comes to people who I feel comfortable with and who’ve displayed a genuine interest I absolutely don’t mine discussing it with them.
