Caramel smiled at Tyra's excitement but her expression immediately changed into something more serious. "Tyra my dear, could ye do something for me? Could ye leave me alone for a bit and maybe send in Rave later? I just need to discuss some things with him, in private. And I would also like to be alone for a while. Oh and could ye also open a barrel of rum for the rest of the crew? Thank you."

 

"Oh, aye," Tyra nodded, still beaming, "Of course! I will tell him right away! And I will gladly get a barrel of rum, I could go for a flagon myself!"

With that, she turned and trotted back out the door, toward the kitchen.

Upon arriving at the kitchen, she spotted Rave sitting at the table.

"Ah, greetings, Rave!" She chirped, waving a hoof at the stallion, "Caramel wishes to see you in her room!"

 

She passed the table and collected a barrel of rum and a mug for herself. She flipped the lid open and dunked the mug in, proceeding to drink heartily.

Rave looked up as Tyra entered the kitchen and stating that Caramel wanted to see him. "Oh? Alright, I will go to her immediately. Thank you for telling me". Rave left the kitchen and headed for Caramel's room, the captain's quarters.

Caramel unlocked the door and led Rave inside. Once he was inside, she locked it again. She sat down at her desk again and started playing with her sword again. There was some silence between them until Caramel looked up at Rave. "Oh yeah.. sorry... I assumed ye knew why you were here... the map... the one we found inside the cave, how far are you with the translation?"

Rave raised an eyebrow in surprise. "I actually have it translated". He walked to her. "It appears that Atlantis is situated near Trottingham". Rave had the map with him, still carrying his saddlebag. He laid the map in front of her. "Now, that aside, is there something wrong?".

After wandering, totally lost on the endless corridors, Lordy finally made it to the ship. His pack was filled to the max and his now-blue uniform was shining in the lantern-light (or whatever light source they have).

Caramel let her head drop onto her desk. "No no no no no...why must it be Trottingham... why? Why are ye doing this to me Ninlil?" She said to herself. She sighed at looked back up. She studied the map in front of her. "Darn.. there is no way we can avoid it that cursed town either. It's on the route and we need to get supplies somewhere on the way." She banged her head to the table multiple times. "I don't wanna go..."

Rave watched as Caramel seemed to be angry with the town of Trottenham. When she started banging her head against the table, he moved to her side and grabbed her head with his magic after a few bangs. "Caramel, please. What is wrong?" he asked really worried.

"Well where do ye think my accent is from? I don't just sound like this because I've spend all me life with pirates." Caramel sighed. "I was born in Trottingham... and it's not a place I like visit... I thought I was done with that place.'' She leaned back in her chair with her hooves in her face. "Why did it had to be Trottingham?" she mumbled to herself again.

Rave understood and hugged her. "I guess I should have recognized it, I have been there a few times before. Most often to do some exploration for business ponies living there. What happened there, if I might ask? You seem... very sad about it. I would like to get to know you better".

Caramel did not like to talk about her past. She had learned to shove it into the darkest corner of her mind and therefore it took a lot of effort to recall those memories. "Ye really wanna know the whole story? I know I can trust ye with this but just a warning that ye better get comfortable because it's a long story."

Rave nodded to her and took a seat on the floor. "I understand. The past is most often a thing that we don't look back to, but that is why it exists in the past. We tend to look more to the future. Please, I want to hear it all". He was looking at her, ready to listen.

Caramel got out of her chair and sat down on the ground next to Rave.

 

"I was really young when my mother got pregnant of my sister. I was really excited, so was me dad and me brother. Only a few month later, something went wrong with the baby. My mom.... she... she had a miscarriage." Caramel looked down for a moment before continuing her story. "She couldn't deal with, she became mad and aggressive. That's why my father divorced her. He took me and me brother and moved to Canterlot. He was the one who taught me how to sail. Unfortunately, only a few years later, my father died. We were sailing, there was this big thunderstorm. I.. I couldn't save him."

 

"My brother wasn't old enough to take care of me but he was old enough to go to the gifted unicorn school. Basically, I had to go back to me mom in Trotttingham. All those years alone, she had really gone mad. She was a drunk.. she was... she was." Caramel couldn't continue any further. The tears from her eyes somehow held her tongue. She looked down again, gathering her strength. She took of her scarf and pulled back her head, revealing scars and burns around her neck. "She was a monster."

Rave thought about this for a while, his expression becoming sad. "Caramel... I am truly sorry for what happened to you. What your mother did to you was not right. But you are your own mare now, she can not do anything" he held her close to him. "Besides, we don't have to go to Trottingham, we don't have to do this. There are other adventures out there waiting for us" he said.

"I wasn't finished yet... that isn't the whole story." Caramel said as she whipped away her tears. "But that doesn't matter, we're going to Atlantis. I might be a thief but I have a code. I never break a promise." She said as she slowly got back on her hoofs. She was a little dizzy so she used her desk to support her a little. "Lets just say that there are a lot of ponies in Trottingham that know the old me. They know my real name, they know where I'm from and what I've done. They know everything and I'm not looking forward to seeing those ponies again."

Rave was silent for a while. "I understand. If any of those ponies try anything funny, try to hurt you or attack you, they will have to go through me. I am sure the others will also back you up" he said, referring to the rest of the crew. "We are here for you Caramel.... I am here for you".

"Oh trust me, they won't attack me. That's just what's bothers me. They are afraid of me and they look at me with their judgmental eyes. Thinking about it only makes me shiver." Caramel said with a frown on her face. "I am really tired, I really need to get some shut eye. There is still some lunch left down in the kitchen if you want... and if you want, you can take the spare key to quarters... ye know, if ye decide to sleep somewhere else tonight." She said with a smirk before she climbed into her bed. "Goodnight."

Rave nodded to her and left for the kitchen. He started eating what had been left. He was carefully thinking what Caramel had told him. He had been judged as well and feared in many places, due to being a Darkmane and for his own past crimes. He understood her feelings. After finishing up, he looked at the keys and then smiled. He went back to the quarters and opened the door to the Captain's quarters. He closed the door behind him and got in bed with Caramel and closed his eyes, lying close to her.

Caramel had gotten out of bed very quiet so she didn't wake Rave and was now hanging in one of the crows nest, studying the map. She yawned, drank a bit of her tea (with a little rum) and took a bite of her cookie. "Maybe if we go... no.. that won't work either.. uhg! there is no way we can avoid Trottingham without getting to Atlantis." she mumbled angry to herself.

Waking up but still laying in bed Scarlett began to contemplate the mystery of time travel. Until she got bored and went to go and sit on top of the mast. Teleporting silently up on to the top of the main mast, she sat quietly for a moment or two before looking down and seeing Caramel. With a tired tone she said "Hi there Cap."

Tyra regained consciousness, finding herself curled up inside a confined, circular room with some light coming from above.

 

Upon collecting her wits and popping her head out the top, she discovered the room was actually the rum barrel that she'd drank by herself the night before.

"Ah," she mumbled, "That would explain it."

 

She hopped out of the barrel, her unsteady impact causing her to stumble off the table and onto the floor. "I am okay!" She called to anypony present.

 

She managed to stagger up to the deck, a glazed look in her eyes from having drank so much.

"Good morning Scarlett... what bring ye up here? wait... I don't wanna know." Caramel gave another yawn and stretched her arms. "Say, could ye do me a favor and open up the bay, I really wanna get this thing sailing again. Unless, ye have to some other stuff first." She said before she flew down the mast and landed on the main deck

She jumped down and landed on a small pad of her own magic next to Caramel "Shouldn't we see if the rest are ready yet? I still have some stuff to move such as supplies and my own equipment but the others may still need to get stuff ready or grab something from town before we get going. The ship itself is ready though if that's what you meant"

Aqua was very sleepy yet so awake with excitement. She was about to go meet up with Caramel and the others but of course her shyness got the best of her and caused her to steer away and start walking in a different direction. She tried to distract herself by playing with the seashells wove in her mane.

"You make a good point my dear. I guess I'm a bit too excited to get on the water again. Take as much time as ye need." Caramel extended a hoof to help Tyra back up. "Be careful mate." She chuckled. "How many barrels did ye drink? I hope we still have some left for the rest of the journey."
