Well, it is official. Project Cars, the crowd-funded racing simulation game has been cancelled for the Wii U, apparently due to a rough development cycle and not being able to get the game to run to the 'standards' of developer Slightly Mad Studios.  It apparently was running poorly with even some graphical downgrades.

Now, this has actually angered me. I do not own a Wii U, but during the game's Kickstarter campaign, a Wii U version was one of the promised versions to be made if funding was successful. Many backers were wanting a Wii U version. Now, instead of just downgrading it to the point of it running, instead they cancel it and now a sequel to Project Cars has already been announced, it was announced a mere month or two after the first game's release.

Some might say that the Wii U version would have been butchered if more downgrades would have happened, but a good racing game could still have been made. If they at least made it the quality of Forza 4 that was on the Xbox 360, it still would have been a fine racing title, but instead they just cancelled altogether.

What are your thoughts on this?

First they lied to PC gamers that Nvidia didn't pay them to compromise performance on AMD cards (yeah, not like the game is full of Nvidia advertising... oh). Then they announced a sequel a month after release. Now they failed to live up to one of their crowdfunding promises and get the game on the Wii U.

They're a bit more than "slightly mad", I think.

I have to say, I've lost quite a lot of faith in SMS... I contributed a bit to this game, as I thought the initial idea sounded very promising and had much potential, and as a huge fan of racing sims this looked like a great project, especially from the development screens. But ugh, the game now just feels so... unfinished. And they don't seem to be very interested in fixing its numberous problems. Then they turn around and announce the sequel less then half a year after the first game has been released, and expect us to help kickstart that too? This just screams of shady marketing to me. =/ And now they're basically going back on their own Kickstarter goals. These guys really don't deserve any more success until they show us they're willing to put the work in and deliver the level content that was expected by all those who backed them.
