planning A Modern Fantasy

I came up with what I thought was a marvelous idea for a role play. It would combine several fantasy themes with our world. For example, modern firearms with magical spells instead of grenades. I was thinking a bit of a monster hunting role play, or sellswords on a mission from some emperor, etc. There would be a proficiency system to avoid all the characters being too similar, such as small arms proficiency, aka your average firearms like shotguns, pistols, rifles, etc., heavy arms proficiency, aka rocket launchers, light machine guns, etc., blades proficiency, and magic proficiency. I'm just looking for people to help flesh out my idea and hopefully gauge interest in the idea. This would be a non-pony RP.

It has potential, and even though I prefer more story based RP's I do enjoy a good dnd esque RP.

 

I help plan by asking questions, so lets start off with a few.

 

You say non-pony, are humanoid races acceptable?

 

Is there an over-arching story? or is it more of a free roam?

 

Your idea looks similar to Pathfinder, from what I've heard of it.

 

I do have a character or two in mind for this if it gets off the ground.

Yes, so anthros would be acceptable, and I suppose a pony as a mount would be alright.

I currently have no story in mind, which is why I am looking for a group to help me plan, and from what I can tell about our other RPs, you seem to be good with a story.

Well, I am best at making other people's stories better.

The stories I supplied in earlier RP's are ones I already had in mind for possible future FimFictions.

 

I'll see what I can think up though, if you have a sort of basis or framework for me to build from it would help.

how about to explain the world and how it works, magic and tech both evolved together making magic power machines and some spells either need parts or can only be casted by special tech gauntlets. Tell me if it sounds good

(I thought of the mechromancer a bit when I saw this. also I will tell you if I can think of something for a story but I have mechs in my head right now)

 

edit: I thought of a story where a good inventor makes new amazing tech and magic inventions but when he shows it off to the king, the king thinks that some of the inventions are blasphemes or something then locks him away but the inventions are kept in some storage until the become self aware of what happened because of the magic inside them, thus making them want to get revenge on the king. I like this idea but you can make tweaks to it if you want

How about: An peaceful inventor, who abhors violence, comes up with brilliant contrations that, if used for violence, would be insane. A gun, to reduce the amount of death in hunters. Dynamite (or something of the like) for mining operations. Steam power, so one can still travel great distances quickly with minimal use of magic. A war mongering king sees what kind of work he's created, sees the opportunities in keeping him for himself, and convinces him that he'd like to stay in the castle. At some point, he hears the inventor mention that he could make something that could travel to space, but that seems ridiculous, until he starts thinking of what he could do with kinetic bombardment. Now, other countries have caught wind of it, and attempt to hire individuals to stop the mad king from having ultimate power. That's where the characters come in. This group of unlikely heroes is brought together to stop him. However, they have to figure out what to do, upon discovering that everything was made by this poor fool in the castle, who is, unwittingly, making one of the ultimate weapons.

On a quasi related note, magic could be somewhat sentient. And magic is harnessed by communicating with it, and requesting some small favor, which becomes more powerful as you interact with it more.
