What's the diff between hard rock and heavy metal?

Hard rock would be stuff like AC/DC, Slash, Black Label Society. Heavy metal is stuff like Iron Maiden, Lordi, etc.

Yeah, it can be confusing if you're not really that much into rock music. Just think of it this way, though; hard rock is typically softer than heavy metal.
