I want an episode about Earth Pony Inferiority.

I don't think cutie marks and talents have very much to do with what race a pony is. There has been too much inconsistency among the 3 race's cutie marks to say for certain that the talent must match the race.

It was interesting that Big Mac was literally shown to dream of being a unicorn. That alone shows there must be some feelings of envy and inferiority among some of the earth ponies towards the other two races. Also, Trender Hoof (a unicorn) was giving off some subtle racist vibes towards earth ponies back in Simple Ways. It's quite possible that some unicorns and pegasi look down on earth ponies as being beneath them.

I think an episode that addresses this and highlights the earth pony's specific strengths would be a great idea.

Every Apple Family Episode ever?

Seriously, every episode that focuses on AJ or Pinkie Pie shows how awesome Earth Ponies are

However, Pegasi are still master race

The point being, do they themselves know that they are awesome? If Big Mac was content with being an earth pony, why then would he dream of being something else?

Why does everybody on this discussion make the assumption that people only have dreams about being superior to their true selves?

To suggest that Big Mac must feel that unicorns are superior would be to suggest that anyone who is happy with their existence wouldn't dream at all.

Sometimes dreams are nothing more than pure fantasy with no rhyme or reason.

Earth Ponies are in no way shape or form inferior. What does that even mean? Inferior in what sense? If anything, isn't harnessing the magic in the earth a far more precious ability than flying around or levitating objects? If the name of the game is survive on your own, then Earth Ponies would certainly prevail, right? What is supposedly "cooler" is irrelevant.

True, there may be no deeper meaning to it than it being a simple setup for the Princess Big Mac joke and nothing more. However, until proven otherwise, there is always room for speculation.

Heaven forbid Big Mac get any layers added to his character beyond "nope" and "eeyup".

The common belief seems to be that Earth Ponies have greater physical strength. Is this really natural, though, or is it just the rules of how they're socially conditioned?

In Winter Wrap Up, although Twilight was shown as physically weaker than the Earth Ponies, neither Applejack nor anypony else actually questioned her when she attempted to do an Earth Pony job. They treated it like it was just an aspect of her character rather than the result of not being an Earth Pony.

In Simple Ways, the same thing happened with Rarity. She attempted to do an Earth Pony job, and although she was unsuccessful, Applejack didn't question her on it.

I think an episode that addresses Earth Pony abilities would be a good idea. All we really have to work on right now are fan theories.

I'm thinking, how do we know that earth ponies are all just one race. They are all called earth ponies because they do not have wings nor horns. But that only says that they do not have the power of shooting lasers and levitating objects, nor the power of flight. For me, it seems that the powers of different earth ponies are as different as pegasi and unicorn magic. Pinkie Pie and Applejack, for example, have vastly different abilities. Pinkie Pie can predict the future, teleport, and appear to defy the laws of physics. On the other hand, Applejack is restricted to the laws of physics and the space-time continium. However, just like her brother, she has seemingly unlimited endurance, has never been shown to struggle with something being too heavy, and can run as fast as Rainbow Dash can fly.

An episode about Earth Ponies's inferiority? I like it :). Big Mac dreamed to be a unicorn. Is he feeling bad about being a normal pony? We alreeady see a lot of troubles in Equestria caused by Magic, Earth Pony race usually dont have a chance against one magic user (King Sombra, Discord etc)

I don't think Earth Ponies are inferior but their magic/abilities lead to less glamorous positions in society than Unicorns or Pegasus ponies, and might helps create something sort of like a caste system and I wouldn't mind seeing an episode tackle that issue.

This is an interesting question I do admit. While I do tout that earth ponies have just as many advantages as any other race, the idea that they might not know that, and that big mac isn't satisfied as what he is, certainly could be some interesting episode fodder.

There does seem to be some feelings of dissatisfaction in the earth pony's position. Pinkie Pie did not like working at a rock farm, Applejack tried to become a noble by going to Manehattan, and Big Mac dreams of being a princess.

But of course not all earth ponies have lowly jobs. Earth ponies seem to fit closer to our modern culture seeing as Sapphire Shores and Mayor Mare are earth ponies. They also handle technology well as earth ponies have better hoof eye coordination than the other ponies.

In the last episode, didn't Big Mac dream of being a unicorn. That means he wished he had a horn. If he were happy with being an earth pony he wouldn't dream of such a thing. It's just like boy that want to be girls and vice versa many times dream of being the other gender.

Actually, he dreamed of being an Alicorn, so he wishes he had wings too. It's funny you would mention wishing to be another gender, since all canon Alicorns are female, though he could very well just wish for the power of an Alicorn without wishing to be female, especially since he doesn't actually change gender despite his transformation being fairly Sailor Moon-esque.

Still, it does appear that an Alicorn is actually the Equestrian equivalent of an ideal action hero, and that does lend credibility to the theory that Equestria is at least somewhat matriarchal, as it's possible that heroes are laced with ideals of femininity, kind of like how heroes in our world are often associated with masculinity. It's equally possible though that the idea of a hero is not saddled with any ideas regarding gender at all as Equestria seems to have less discrimination in general, and maybe Big Mac wishing he's an Alicorn doesn't violate any norms like it would in our society.

Regarding Earth Pony inferiority, I don't think that's necessarily how Big Mac feels. Perhaps he simply wonders what it would be like if he was another species without necessarily being dissatisfied with who and what he is. He wouldn't know firsthand what it's like to fly or cast spells, so he can only imagine it. Perhaps he's simply intrigued by other ponies. Because he has spent virtually his entire life at Sweet Apple Acres, I wouldn't be surprised if he imagined a different life in general, and not being an Earth Pony would be as different as it gets.

It does seem that Big Mac would want to be a girl as Equestria is a very matriarchal society. Even in his own family farm Granny Smith is grooming Applejack to be the head of the farm like Granny Smith was rather than him possibly because she's a mare and he isn't.

It isn't a really big deal. In Steven Universe Steven looks up to his three adopted mothers as role models and as a result acts like a girl occasionally.

Technically he only imagined himself being an alicorn after it became known that they could do anything they wanted to in their dream. He was a unicorn from the get go all on his own with no prompting from anyone else.

Perhaps I should re-watch that episode. I'm not the best at picking up the finer details like that. I guess it kind of makes sense since only unicorns are proven to have the ability to transform into Alicorns.

To be honest, I kind of feel that its past its time. This would have been a good episode in Season 1 or 2 to do some core worldbuilding, but earth ponies are such a basic part of the world that just NOW explaining their place in the world and all that would seem too obtrusive.

Well, according to the books Cadence was a pegasus first.

Well, now I have to read the books. I've been meaning to do that for some time now. I'll have to wait and see as I also want to catch up on the graphic novels, and am debating whether to attend BronyCAN again this year.

If you still need to proof yourself "worthy" then you haven't learned all that much from life. Again "hard work" you don't seem to understand the meaning of abundance, either.

Abundance doesn't come from how much hard work you put into it, there's hard laboring people all over earth, who doesn't get much further in life, in terms of riches. So, what's the meaning behind abundance?

Do you need to be rich in order to be abundant?

Wrong again, abundance comes from within yourself, first. It's an state of being.

Without this realization, it's likely you wont get much from life, inner poverty. No matter how much you have, it'll mean nothing.

Stay bright.
