need a little help with a pirate oc

Hello, today i wish to know if anyone can help me design my pirate oc? I've been a huge fan of pirates, but sadly the one pirate that is..sorta..almost kinda canon is the one in the comics (which i can't read them.) So it's difficult. I have a pirate oc named Vlad, yet the more i look at him, the more i notice he isn't..really a pirate. more of an explorer. anyway, i was asking if anyone can assist me in designing's the oc? i've already got the somewhat look down


looks and colours: he is a somewhat decent looking Stallion, a scar over his left cheek. His eyes are a deep brown, His mane colour consists of Golden yellow hair, with a single silver streek along it. His hair hangs over his eyes, and his fur colouring consists of a cobalt blue. His cutie mark consists of a map with Two scimitars piercing through it. (Kinda like an X. or skull and cross bones ^^)

Hmm, maybe the colours are part of the reason why your OC/fancharacter isn't pirate-like. I would suggest for you to give him a light brown coat, a dark brown mane/tail and something that involves blue myself, as what you've described may come off as a little too hard on one's eyes. Just a thought.

I feel like you could make almost any color of pony work. I think the hairstyle and clothing would be more important about getting the pirate idea across. You don't need to give him everything, but you could consider adding things like wearing a tricorne hat, bandana, earings, having a pet, dreads, jackets, or sashes, ect.

 

There's a lot of examples you can look up of real pirates on the internet. My favorite at the moment is Hook from Once Upon a Time:

 

or look at historic pics, like pirate reenactors:

 

or just search some ponys

 

 

Get some ideas by searching what pirates actually wore and see what you want to take.

I do have an oc that has a pirate feel to him.  but, i ain't the best at drawing clothing. normally he does have those clothes on him though. I would choose brown and such, but with captain..Hoofbeard? in the comics, i wanna distinguish from that design. y'know?

Hm...in my opinion, green doesn't really suit a pirate. It seems to...landlubbery. Is this a different OC from the one you described initially?

When I think of pirates, I generally think of rich and extravagant colours. Shades of red, gold, black and cream. Longcoats and beards and earrings and hats with feather in. That type of thing!

But I guess it all depends on what kind of image you want him to portray. Will he be a "classic" pirate, or something a little different? (Like One Piece pirates, who totally adhere to a different set of stylistic choices.) What's this guy's personality like?
