Phasing out the "Super Moderator" rank

We made a few changes to the structure of the staff here at MLP Forums in preparation for further growth in the months ahead, and also to even out the distribution of responsibility somewhat.

 

What we've done is merge the responsibilities and capabilities of the "super moderator" rank with the "administrator" one. The team and I felt that the line between super moderators and admins was already so fine, differentiating between them was unnecessary and confusing. Since Swoop and Zoop were first appointed, I haven't made any major decisions or site changes without their input, anyway, so this promotion hopefully won't come as too much of a surprise to most of you.

 

However, I have opened up most of the ACP to them, so they are definitely full-on admins now who are capable of shuffling around and modifying the site, editing our rules, and generally being in charge.

 

This simplifies the previous "admin > super mod > mod" staff structure to just "admin > mod", where the responsibilities are far more clear-cut:

• Admins are in charge of, and responsible for, the entire site. Their job is to be the "face" of the MLP Forums and implement changes, additions, and improvements to the site.
• Moderators are in charge of enforcing our rules on the site's content and members, and are appointed by the administrators.

While the above is a gross over-simplification of the true responsibilities of each position, it should give you, as a member, a general idea of who's in charge of what. Among the admins, I'm still the one responsible for the black magic technological wizardry of MLP Forums (as I'm still the only one with server access), while Zoop's and Swoop's new roles are predominantly managerial.

 

On our side of things, the fact that we now have three admins instead of one will allow me to better allocate my own personal time. I'd rather avoid the details, but suffice it to say - MLP Forums is the closest thing I have to a child, and I was its single parent until now.

I agree for the most part, only one thing I don't like as much is changing the names to Managment and Staff. It makes them sound more "official" <(Lack of a good word here) rather than the fun, moderators who are capable to crack a joke every once in a while. But I respect any decision you make Feld0.

We are not here to create "Fun" but simply to provide a properly managed locale for your typical conversations about a highly popular televised program created for the stimulation of ocular and auditory senses to promote general happiness amongst viewers that is commonly referred to as "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Of course, if you can find this "Fun" while doing so I shall certainly not take it from you, unless it is an object in violation of the rules.

 

Just a quick note as well, the title provided to me by our site leader has no bearing on by ability to take a joke and crack it. I could just as easily do it if I were labeled as a speck of dust or a tree as well.

I agree. I also don't like the new names.

 

Most forums have those names because it's the norm, and everyone will know what it's about generally instead of being confused by fancy misleading titles. Aren't we ALL Staff? And aren't we ALL Management? It's really misleading and doesn't tell anyone anything about what we do. Also, I think these names sound too fancy for a My Little Pony Forum. It sounds like the types of names that'd be on some big business technical support website.

 

I just think we should go with the forum typical Administrators and Moderators.

 

(Also, reeedd. Why you guys steal my colour? I preferred the blue because it was a much more stark and differentiating colour from purple, seemed very calming and smooth, and yet official. The blood red seems... somehow less official. Even in spite of the fact that I'm in love with that colour. I really did think blue was a good Admin colour.)

Administrator > Administrators > Moderators > Donors > Members > Muffins > Blank Flanks

That's how I prefare it. But I see Feld0 has changed the names to normal now so I guess it doesn't matter anymore :pd
