"No," Iron said with a shrug. "I was never good at tests, except for the practical ones." Her horn lit up with that unnaturalbright red luminance. "Well, let's get started," she said, and she was off.

 

Her hind hooves shoved off of the stone floor as she charged. Her horn was still glowing, but she did't produce a weapon until she had jumped around the tree. Sparks shot from her broken horntip as something grey shot from under her cloak, suspended in telekinesis. She flung the sword towards him like a bullet, smirking.

 

"This was where I was trained in the art of the sword..." Hiero went on, "with my friends...Abel, and Apollo. For years, we trained under the son of Farrier..."

 

He paid no mind to the sword, as it flew towards him. Moving, with a sudden grace, to the right, allowing the sword to pass harmlessly past him, he opened his eyes to stare at Iron from afar. 

 

"...Eager, are we?" He smiled, raising the short-sword. "Very well, then. If you do not have the patience to listen to this veteran's story...Then match. Start."

 

With the sword she had shot at him having flown past him, he began to walk towards Iron at a rather slow pace...In a peculiar pose. Inching towards her, his sword at the ready...Should she allow him to get too close, or for him to approach, he would unleash an almost impossibly fast horizontal strike, lunging forward as he would do so.

 

But for now, he merely approached slowly...

"Thanks. I haven't had these abilities very long, or used them like this, so i'm sorta just going with the new feel." In testing, she tilted her head, and lit up her horn, sending a shimmering pulse spiraling through the air. She looked down again to Ice Blizzard. "What about you? Never told me you had ice powers. Though, thinking about it..." She shot him a knowing grin.

Ice took a deep breath and started swimming in the water. ​"It's....a pretty long story....like....so long." ​He got out of the water, and walked onto land. ​"For now, I'll give you the short version: All of my ancestors power is in an invisible amulet that's a part of my soul." ​He tore into a whole freshly caught salmon from the river and swallowed it. ​"Sound cool, right?"

"That's elaborate. How about this: my powers were given to me by a higher being. Sorta. Can't be too specific on those details." She shrugged, then blinked twice at Ice Blizzard, out in the middle of the lake. "You're eating fish. Raw?" She made a face, then went back to staring. "That can't possibly be healthy for you."

Ice just rolled his eyes as he finished off the salmon. He then threw the bones away, and cleaned his face and hooves of the fish smell with the water. ​"Ya got a lot to learn about me and my family, Ives. For one thing, our teeth are genetically modified to chew meat--specifically seafood. Secondly, we're nearly immune to that stuff. The Ice Clan hunted like animals for fish and ate it whichever way they could."

​"I'd love to tell ya more after the fight but for now..." ​C​racking his neck, Ice walked back into position, a few feet away from her. He stood, tracing his hoof on the ground like a bull ready to charge. ​"Round 2...."

"Round two." Ivory star nodded in agreement, her horn lighting up the air around her. Triple pillars of compressed energy spun out from in front of her, moving around on the ground in a tight circular pattern so they'd be harder to avoid. They bore down on Ice Blizzard, spinning at high speeds, and moving towards him just as quickly.

Ice watched as the pillars headed for him. As they came at him, he would send an ice clone forward to absorb the damage, and buy as a distraction. Meanwhile, an ice cage would start falling towards Ivory, and would potentially entrap her behind icy bars. After that, Ice would press his hooves into the earth, and begin letting his icy mana flow through...

At the sound of the cage falling, Ivory Star tilted her head up, before firing another disk. As the force blew a hole in the roof of the cage, she simultaneously jumped on it, pulling herself on top. Looking over Ice Blizzard now, she concentrated, before firing a bundle of energy into the ground. Within seconds, it devolved into the consistency of mud, and would cause him to start rapidly sinking beneath.

Ice smirked. His mana was already flowing through the ground before she had done that. With that, he used the murky consistency of the ground, and covered it in a layer of ice. He then grabbed that end of the ground, and yanked on it downwards, like someone cracking a whip.

 

With that, a single wave of tension would ride along the entire patch of grass that was yanked up, and stop under Ivory. This would try to launch her into the air...

The baroness began to tap her hoof as she waited for the attendant to notice her.  Finally, she gave up and turned to the seemingly crazed pony with a microphone in her face.

 

 

"Well, assuming we will be here for a while, I don't see the wrong in humoring your demands for the moment.  I'm Baroness Carnelian Clout of House Koroundio.  My estate includes the majority of the gem mines in the Crystal Empire, as well as a few manors scattered throughout Equestria.  Anyway, enough about me.  To whom have I made my acquaintance known?"

The kick landed, hitting the demon square in his temple. His neck didn't bend and his skin didn't bruise. Her momentum and strength amounted to nothing despite the direct hit. It felt more like she was hitting a brick wall than a flesh creature.

 

With one sweeping  motion, he smacked her in the chest, flinging her away from him with tremendous force.

 

"I already told you your attacks aren't infused with any spirit power." He taunted as he loomed over her. As if he was only toying with her, he didn't follow up with his attack, giving her time to recover from his strike. "You have a great body, but you don't know how to use it." He commented as he retrieved the mysterious orb from it's pocket again. "Every time I kill someone, The Orb of Mni captures their body's memories. I named the orb after myself, you see. The name I've taken on in this realm is Mni, if you must know the name of your killer." He turned his attention to the glistening orb. "Their souls pass on to wherever they go intact, but the orb keeps a copy of their memories and their body for me to use. I can transform into any pony I've killed and use their abilities and strength whenever I want. You were right about one thing. Tricis can fight. Even as an old prune, I can't defeat her, so I need her to train me if I want her powers, but as for you..." He said, starting to trail off before he turned directly to Jade, horns and sharp teeth jetting out in a horrific expression. "I'm going to kill you and use your sword power to kill Feather Weave!"

 

Mni started to chuckle in his deep, demonic roar before a rock struck him on the side of the head. He turned to see that it was thrown by Tricis.

 

"Would you kindly shut the hell up?" She barked, "I am LITERALLY dying of old age while you talk!"

 

Jade was slammed onto the ground and forced to look up as the demon - who had called himself Mni - loomed over her.

 

She swallowed and somersaulted onto her hindhooves, though her face was painted with worry. This absolute monster meant to kill her, take Tricis's teachings, and then kill her with her own knowledge!

 

She could not let this happen. She had to swallow her fear and challenge this demon. She had to--

 

"..." Her ear flopped in confusion as Tricis got involved, ranting at Mni.

 

Though, with the distraction, Jade leaped up and attempted a spinning kick aimed at the monster's jaw.

She answered, "Propriator and host of Equestria's Dark Tournament; here to preside over the bloodbath!" She declared proudly before putting the mic back up to Carnelian's mouth. "But tell me, ma'am, fancy estates and gem mines don't win battles. What can you tell us about your combat experience?"

 

Jade was slammed onto the ground and forced to look up as the demon - who had called himself Mni - loomed over her.

Topaz twirled around over three hundred sixty degrees so that she was no longer facing her interviewee, instead she was facing a small crowd of mostly confused ponies that had gathered around. "IIIIIIIIIIIIIII LOVE IT!" She declared as her bushy red tail swayed side to side happily. "You heard it here, folks! We're gonna see some blood!" She announced, followed by some very hesitant and confused claps.

"Urgh..." she managed to force herself up onto her hooves, and shook her head. She didn't want to admit it, but he was right - she needed her sword.

 

Her wing flexed to her back and curled around the brunt of her katana, unsheathing it and twirling it through her articulate feathertips before pointing the edge of the blade toward Mni.

Jade's heart skipped a beat as she realised her kick had done next to nothing to Mni, and her inner dread only escalated as her leg was grabbed in his enormous hoof.

Jade's worries would be worsened after she drew her sword to see a very mundane and non-glowing katana. How bad she made it work before?

 

Mni chose to increase her frustration with a taunt. "Can't quite get your powers to work, huh?" He said with a jaunty laugh. "Well then, let me try on something more your size."

 

He pulled the Orb of Mni out of its pouch again and started to inhale more fumes before the smoke surrounded him again. The smoke disappated to reveal a shorter, grey earth pony with a heavy looking green trench coat. The pony had slightly squinted eyes and a short black main that stood straight up on his head. He spoke with a gravely, accented voice.

 

"Let's see if you can even use that sword!" He said as he extended his right front leg to the side. A sickle blade grew out of his foreleg in one swift motion, the same color as his coat, but as hard as steel.

Exactly what charity that was, Carnelian hadn't the darndest clue.  Tax write-offs and PR were the name of her game, but also intimidation.  What could be said of her after willingly dropping millions of bits without batting an eyelash?

 "A philanthropist and a fighter! What isn't this gal?" Topaz declared after the applause from the confused crowd dissapated. There were murmurs among the crowd about whether or not this interview was an official event or just some strange spontaneity.

Mni leapt into action, taking initiative by swinging left and right with his strange leg blade. It seemed he now had a completely different fighting style than when he was Cumulus. This body favored fighting with exaggerated, sweeping motions in an unpredictable way that was difficult to dodge.

She deflected as much of his swings as she could with her sword, and used her legs and wings to dodge and float around most of his attacks, though she would get frequently nicked and scratched.

With each parry, Jade would see that the sickle blade was as hard as steel, but as the fighting went on, a pattern emerged from his attacks. It was interesting the way his attack formula was disguised to look random. Right hook, right hook, left hook, repeat, simple enough. However, the slices he used changed every four strikes instead of three. Upper cut, upper cut, lower cut, lower cut. So the pattern appeared to be a random string: Right upper cut, right upper cut, left lower cut, right lower cut, right upper cut, left upper cut, etc.

Snowstorm bent down and picked up the flower in one hoof, holding it up to the dim light so he could identify it.

The flower was nothing more than a wilting cactus flower. As he picked it, the pricklers from the small bit of cactus that it grew from would stick into his hoof and hurt. Apparently, this was some kind of trick. Or was it a threat? Who knows. That's all there was to it.

Snowstorm dropped the flower after inspecting the thorn sticking into his hoof. He stomped on it nonchalantly afterwards as he inspected the single drop of blood that came from the small wound. His ears began to twitch, looking for signs of the mare, but she was outside of the range of his enhanced hearing. He slowly, casually exited the bar and looked around to see for signs of which direction she'd gone. Imps were excellent trackers in the wild, and though he was far removed from his roots, he possessed many of the same skills. On a hunch, he looked around with his eyes for signs of plant life emanating magical energy.

 

 

Jade continued to parry and weave by Mni's slashes, and her repeating blocks helped her catch on to his pattern.

The hoof landed on the back of his head, flattening down part of his hair before the earth pony lost his balance and rolled onto the ground. He managed to continue the roll to land back on his hooves, but he quickly reached into his pocket to take out the orb once again.
