The upcoming release of Doom 2016 could lead to inspire developers to make more FPS in the classic style (classic arcade shooter) like:

- Big ass bosses and tons of different enemies.

- Lots of weapons without being constrained by the "only 2" gameplay.

- More non-linear levels.

- getting bonus, health and ammunition for killing enemies or finding secrets.

- straightforward action.

Anyone else excited? Do you want more classic FPS style games?

I didnt know they were different Terms for First Person Shooter, but i like all the stuff you listed there, so i guess im for Classic Style  :)

The only FPS Games i played so far are Alien Trilogy, Alien Resurrection, Doom 1 und 2, Hybrid and Resident Evil Survivor 1 and 2.

Even though i have no idea, what of this games Classic First Person Shooters are and which not

I hope the new Doom has giant mutant enemies and a little bit of Gore in it, like in the game Loaded, than im very happy  :pinkie:

Total Biscuit also explained about the counter-style of the classic FPS:

And here playing Shadow Warrior and talking about the future of single-player FPS

One of my fondest memories of the original Doom was grabbing the chainsaw for the first time and seeing the message "A chainsaw! Find some meat!". I was 10 when I played it for the firs time.

I also enjoyed Rise of The Triad too. I loved how ridiculous it was. God mode is cool and all, but what about doG mode?

So I had to look up some images of classic FPS, and honestly it reminded me of Spooky's House of Jumpscares... Just sayin

Okay, thanks for all the Videos, now i understand.

The Problem was, i never played War Themed First Person Shooters, so i didnt know, what they were like.

I dont like War Themed games, they are just boring to me.

I play mostly FPS Games to get scared, since the first person perspective makes you feel, like your direct in the game.

Thats why i like to play more Horrorthemed games, were the enemies are either Mutants, Zombies or Aliens.

But now i can see, why you wish to get Classic FPS Games back.

From what i saw and heard, FPS games mostly go on straight lines, you cant explore and if you dont do things the way your supposed to, the game kills you instantly.

And since the exploring part is gone, i also guess they are no secrets in this games.

I personally loved, to go out in Alien Trilogy and search for every wall, i could destroy or go in Hybrid and search for all the hidden ways, so that i can get in all the different Rooms and find all the extra Weapons.

So from what i can see, i would dislike the modern FPS Games and also want the classic Style back  :fluttershy:

And the Gameplay from Doom 4, just looked Amazing! :squee:

Like really, this graphics, they look so real and cool...i should really play more modern games, i think  :please:

Doom 4 is actually taking quite a few conventions from modern day shooters. It's more of a hybrid shooter than a straight up classic or arena shooter. Despite the emphasize on more fast-paced combat, movement seems pretty slow overall and character animations feel very weighty. Also, the melee execution system is laughably out of place in a supposed fast-paced shooter. I know the one thing I felt was missing from my shooters were 3 second kill animations that leave me completely helpless and exposed...

I still play Doom 1 and 2.

I play them almost every single day.

I wasn't pleased with the Doom 4 game play that was shown, but I feel it still has the potential to be good. I enjoy muh Call a muh Duties and muh Halos, but Doom doesn't need to be either of those to be sucessful.

If I was asked "Do you want to see shooters like classic Doom and Duke 3d return?" I would have to say "I'm not sure." I don't know if current game devs could really give me the monster maze 2.5d shooter I really want. I'm not sure if even ID could. And I don't think most people would want those types of shooters to return.

If they can make a classic style FPS with some modern advancements to enhance the experience, I would be all for it. Basically a game like Duke Nukem Forever but actually done right. I could see that being amazing. DKF screwed in so many ways by trying to be TOO modern while also having certain classic elements that were flawed, so it got the worst of both worlds. It is a delicate balance for such a genre to work but it definitely can, so many devs are just afraid to do this nowadays .

You're welcome.

I've tried to find secrets in some modern FPS, but nothing to find. And yes, it's really dump that the game kills you when you're just a bit away from the path you must walk. It's like they're treating us as little children.

I really hope the new Doom will enjoy enormous sales, even better than both Battlefied and CoD.

I hope your PC is advanced enough for the game. My PC would probably go upset since it only has the basic Intel Cards.

You mean the canceled one? The people at id Software and Bethesda became tired of the modern military shooter style, felt their artistic skills where constrained by that style FPS and didn't want Doom to be another CoD.

They could. If the new Doom becomes a success it will inspire other developers to bring back the classic FPS.

I think the new Doom has all the parts you just described.

I also played Duke Nukem Forever. Loved the references and jokes, but the gameplay could've been better. Why the damn 2 weapons limit. Duke could carry the whole US arsenal (Yes, even the nuclear weapons).

Imagine when modern FPS style games where done in the 90's:

I am very Excited for Doom 2016 (which is not actually Doom 4, it's a reboot). That being said, i am okay with not "tons" of classic FPS being pumped out just because it makes the ones we do get more special. I'd rather have 1 or 2 really good and thought out ones every 2-4 years than everyone under the sun trying to pump them out. That's kind of the issue I am having with "retro" inspired games. Everyone under the sun is now trying to cash in on the craze by pumping out 8/16 bit inspired graphics to appeal to older gamers, and it's starting to get exhausting.

Those Indie developers again. I doubt they would do something with classic FPS.

Even when you're making a classic style FPS doesn't mean you're constrained to old pixel styled gaming.

Shadow Warrior is getting a new game with some classic style FPS gameplay. And it will also be released on GOG.com.
