What familiar faces will return for gen5?

Thee aren't many ponies who make appearrances across multiple generations. Applejack has been in gen 1's first episode, a toy appearance in gen 3, and moved up the ranks to be part of the mane 6 in gen 4. Spike has played a rather large role all through Gen1, a tiny role in gen 3, and also appeared in gen 4. Twilight- in gen 1 and 4, Pinkie, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash, only in gen 3 and 4.

Spike and AJ have the most generations under their belts, so my opinion is I expect them to show up in gen 5. I hope Hasbro brings back g3 characters Toola Roola and Starcatcher for the net gen, also. And gen4 Vinyl Scratch, and Sunset Shimmer)

What about everyone else?

Hi, as this thread pertains more to the MLP franchise as a whole, and a possible future show, I have moved it to Sugarcube Corner.

I think it's absolutely no question that Hasbro will keep all of the existing characters if at all possible.

This is actually a huge reason why FiM took off -- it actually has definitive and beloved characters, something sorely lacking from previous MLP generations.

And I know that Hasbro has noticed their recent shows with better characterization have turned a huge profit compared to their shows that didn't.

Yeah pretty much this. Like I've said before, Friendship is Magic got a cast of characters that became instantly loved by tons of people that I can't see Hasbro dumping them or changing them completely like they've done in the past.

It's most likely they're gonna become mainstays in their series like how Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumble Bee, Starscream, etc., are for Transformers, or how most of the GI Joe crew and Cobra has stayed for their series

sorry, but FiM took off because it didn't beat the audience over the head with girly stereotypes and talking down the veiewrs, rather, it offered relateable characters with goals, personality, and interests, good VA, good music, and good animation. Which none of the other gens gave going for them, all at once.

They don't need to keep throwing the same main 6 at s each generation, else it gets stale and marketing suffers as well, with same old, same old. They just need to follow the same formula as gen 4, nd apply them to new (or in this case, old gen caracters they decide to bring in and make fresh)

The above you stated did play a part in why FiM was popular, but you sure can't deny good characters was the biggest selling point

Transformers has been using the same main characters for years and it's still remained popular and fresh despite that. There's really no reason why they can't or won't do the same for MLP

To be honest, i wouldn't mind to see a whole bunch of new characters and that they become the main focus.

Sure, i can see AJ and Spike returning for the sake of tradition and maybe 1 or 2 others. But i am of the opinion "out with the old and in with the new."

There can be another big cast of characters that we can grow to love. :)

Doesn't Transformers still switch out cast members? Some are kept or reused, but there's things like Transformers Animated where we had: Optimus Prime, Prowl, Ratchet, Bulkhead, and Bumblebee as the main bots. Then came Prime which reused four of those, but Arcee pretty much took Prowl's place in the five most important Autobots while Prowl just wasn't in Prime. Then there's earlier shows, like Transformers Armada which had a completely different main cast besides Optimus, like Hot Rod and Red Alert. Then there's series like Robots in Disguise and Rescue Bots, where Optimus might still exist but he's not part of the main cast.

Admittedly I'm not very knowledgeable of Transformers, but I from what I do know they often bring back the mainstays and mix them with returning characters and new characters and mix up there roles, though I'm also aware that not all older characters return

Again though I don't follow Transformers as much so don't put too much stock in my words

I'd wager on seeing Sunset Shimmer in a prominent role in the gen-5 lineup.

I would like that especially if she kept her g4 personality. Dunno how likely that is, since the characters have gotten reboots in personality as well, through the generations (compare gen 3 Rainbow Dash to gen 4 Rainbow Dash)
