Should past pony generations get fan creative content?

I think that past gens are subject to much undeserved ridicule and seen at surface level by many of generation 4's fans. (Cept for 3.5. That deserves every ounce of fanflame and Salem witch burning that it gets.) FiM has just so many creative people in the fandom, I just can't see how there haven't been groups who at least try to delve deeper into the past gens, analyzing the smallest bits of character and traits beneath the thick sugar, rainbow surface of - say for instance, the gen 3 ponies, and see more to work with underneath. Or give them the development they might lack, like they've applied to FiM's background ponies. (Star Catcher, Kimono, and Toola Roola at least stand out with attractive designs or in the case of Kimono, a VERY brief bit of interesting character) And i mean, there's crossovers and headcanon, if absolutely nothing can be found to Draw from past gen ponies, in terms of character.

 

So why is it that we see practically no one giving past ens a chance with creative content? (No fanfics (well, maybe 1, https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11597271/1/Tales-of-another-Ponyville),headcanons, theories, music, pmv's, animations, fanart (very scarce fanart), et?)

 

Do you guys have favorite characters from past pony generations? Would you perhaps like to see more fans give appreiation to past gens, through fanworks?

I understand what you're saying.  However, Gen 3 had basically the same character development for all of the main characters, represent their style and color(Or in G3 Rainbow Dash's case, rainbows.)  They want you to try their style so much that it's cringe worthy.  Plus there's no other type of character development in that series.  That's why a vast majority of bronies won't go into the past Gens.  I can see Gen 1, because it wasn't a bad series(Actually, I'm doing Gen 1 right now on Fan Fiction.), but the others, not so much.

 

As for your story, I liked the concept you made there, using past Gen characters and giving them actual good traits.  Keep it up!

I think that it might seem that way to some, and for good reason. I also feel like the majority of people who could come to that conclusion, when viewing the older gens might not have a trained eye to truly discern if the characters have something, no matter how miniscule, that could be considered characterization, and formulate theories based on other little miniscule canon findings of the character, or headcanons to build off that, in order to further flesh out the character. And again, they could go just purely headcanon, like they did with gen 4 bakground ponies. But most no one even bothers.

 

Just (re) watching G3 positively Pink", I came to my own conclusion that Puzzlemint was a bit better at distraction tactics than the other ponies, and used lying to her advantage to distract Pinkie, as well. So she might have a better head on her shoulders than- say, Minty for example, and decietful when it comes down to a friend's best interest. That's a good bit of characterization just from an observation, I'd say

Should fans put more effort into G3 ponies than the creators themselves ever did? Not sure. All I can say is that something like everyone winning the same amount of contests (i.e, "the winner is Scootaloo!") is what passed for a conflict in G3. That show is absurd to the point that it amuses me. I can see people making designs out of some of the older ponies though. Although with such a wealth of ponies in G4, I don't know why that would be necessary.

Even though I've never really been interested in previous generations of My Little Pony, I do wish there was more fan creative content within those generations. However, the majority of My Little Pony customs are done on previous generation ponies. I don't know.

If you visit the trading boards where collectors of the older stuff hang out then you'll find plenty of fan content.  They have fan theories, fan art, and stories for the older gens (especially gen 1).

Yeah, like @zombienixon said, there is/has been fan made content for previous generations. You just got to search hard for it.

 

Of course, the amount of fan content is nothing compared to G4, but still.

I think the older Gens deserve Fanart as well and well....they have Fanart.

I know one Artist who specially draws Ponys from G3, but also does G1 Ponys and even G2 ones. And she is pretty good at drawing. 

I think sometimes, she even does commissions. So if you search for Older Gen Fanart or want a drawing from an older Pony, you should visit her Page.

Past gens definitely deserve more attention! ♥ It's sad how the new Bronies judge the whole pre-G4 franchise by just the general crappiness of the G3.5... Ok, G3.5 was a failure but the original MLP of the '80s was actually pretty cool! I mean, TIREK is a G1 villain and everyone loves Tirek! (...well, sort of.)

I've seen drawings (really nice ones, too) of the more seemingly popular characters- G1 Firefly, minty, Fizzy, Surprise...

But not much of anything in the way of fan music, pmv, animations, games, and things like that

I love the Flutterponies too! I had hoped that the Breezies would turn out to be the new Flutterponies... But meh, it's just not the same. 

 

I know, right? I'm not sure if G4 fans mock G1 for the Seaponies or they ACTUALLY like them?

 

Anyway, I think there is a G4 book (or a comic? I'm not sure) about some sort of an underwater kingdom. I've never actually seen the thing and I wonder what kind of ponies live in Equestrian waters... Could it be the new Seaponies?

I grew up in G.1 ponies given the VHS types were free back in the video shop days.  Mostly I had a lean on Wind Whistler and Gustey   when I watched the shows.     Also I found some good fan-comics and also a artists or two.

I certainly think that there is a lack of this for the other generations. The particular one where I think this should be the case is g1, for g3 I am not so sure as there isn’t that much to go off of.

The flutter ponies are much better than the breezies imo. I could see stuff done for Rosedust

she was pretty great in end of flutter valley and the mlp 1986 movie, not to mention the end of the former.

Again I think that there should be more fanwork on the older generations including g1 especially in fact I might do some drawing to try to get a feeling for drawing g1 design ponies so I can draw some of my favorite ponies such as Windwhistler, Fizzy, Galaxy etc.
