Which character do you think did best in the season up till now?

Well? With the finale coming tomorrow I felt like asking this question.


Personally I have to go with Pinkie Pie for the most impressive this season, aside from Party Pooped I enjoyed all of her episodes but more importantly her supporting roles were far better than last season where I felt they were a great weak spot for her.

Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow also I think had really strong seasons for various reasons.

Twilight's was alright, held back a bit by lack of really doing much a lot of the time and her focus episodes aside from Amending Fences being in the lower tier. Though her characterization tended to be a lot better and more enjoyable than the blandness she fell into too frequently in S4.

Fluttershy is sadly on the bottom pretty much by default, outside of Scare-Master and to an extent the season premiere she had very little presence this season. Even in Hoofields which co-starred her I felt she was totally overshadowed. I think Apple Bloom actually had almost as many speaking appearances.

I'll give this season to Rarity being she's had the most episodes and not one has been bad imo if not great. Pinkie Pie comes at a close Second

 

Applejack hasn't had a bad episode....but then again she hasn't had a great one. Her episodes continue to be played safe imo. Even in "Mane Attraction" I feel as though her appearance was...boring.

 

Fluttershy was rarely shown this season but when it comes to development, if place her at the top simply because even in her short scenes,you can tell right away she has changed. The writers could have done more with her. Unfortunately, when it comes to owning the season, she's a last for me

 

Twilight...I'd place with the same level.

Twilight and Rainbowdash have done well. I'd place them at a third.

Silver Stream, I think Pinkie had actually the most episodes, Griffinstone, Party Pooped, The one where Pinkie Pie knows, Heartbrakers.

Pinkie's season was most impressive in my opinion for the quality of her episodes and how funnily her chacater was handled (which is very important for Pinkie) as well as we learning new sides of her like her organazion skills and her family life.

 

Everyone was pretty equal in my opinion so I do not really want to put others in order. Fluttershy got good development by being more assertive in her supporting appearences and her episodes were good for her even if they were not the best and she was a little too scared in Scare Master. Her main issue is how very little we saw her so you could put her in the worst based on that but I do not what to since I enjoyed her apperances even if they were few.

 

We did not see Rainbow much either, but she had bit more noticable presence in her supporting appearences. She did not get much develpment beyond her relationship with Scootaloo and Gilda but she has got much in the past and her episodes were good.

 

Twilight got a really great episode in Amending Fences and pretty good one in Hooffields and McColts and one of the worst of the season in What About Discord (but since this season has been so good that still was not a bad episode, mainly boring). She was quite funny this season and had some development with going back to her her past and being more of a princess this season. She suffered mostly by how little we have seen her in comparison by earlier seasons really, her complaining about how she has nothing to do was almost meta in that sense. But her season could really improve with the finale (and I for one do not mind that she is the premier/finale lead usually, fixing epic things is really her personality and destiny in a way and what Twilight needs. Not that I do not want rest of the cast to have a great finale as well).

 

Rarity got her butique in Canterlot which was important for her but the episode was not that unique for her even if it was a good one. Her other apperances even in the lead were not really not that new either except maybe for Rarity Investigates. Still with so many good episodes she has a good season and her character is always great even if not much new was added.

 

Applejack got really good season regarding that her apperances were always interesting to me unlike many time in previous seasons. All her apperances and actions seemed more natural than many times in previous seasons, expecially in her lead episodes and she got good interactions with other characters, Pinkie most of all.

 

I feel all the main chacaters were a bit more sidelines since it was the supporting character season. But it does not bother me, I enjoy the focus put on supporting characters very much and I hope it continues. The main characters should have as much espisodes as feels natural for them unless someone gets sidelined. So hopefully more Fluttershy next season and maybe a bit less Pinkie to balance it out.

I agree that Fluttershy was pretty sucky this season--but not for that reason. In this season, she acted rather...I don't know. Her being ignorant to Discord's emotions in "Make New Friends" really bothered me, since his anger was glaringly obvious. It seems like she's been doing that kind of thing a lot lately? The writers seem to have sacrificed some bits of her character for the sake of moving the plot along in some episodes.

 

As for BEST character development, maybe...Rarity? I don't know. It feels like not much has happened this season in that department--or maybe my memory is just slipping right now.

Rarity is really good for brief one liners and stuff like that cause Tabitha can make almost any line funny through the sheer power of her line delivery as Rarity in a way that is harder with the others.

Overall, I think fluttershy did pretty poorly this season, as while I thought she was really good in the hooffields and mccolts, past that she felt really just "there" this season. Not that great.

 

Rarity also felt kind of lackluster this season. When she was such an incredible pony LAST season with inspiration manifestation and rarity takes manehattan, having her kind of ho hum like this is really saddening.

 

Rainbow dash likewise felt kind of bleh. She didn't really have any awesome episode appearances like she did with wonderbolt academy, and overall, kind of lukewarm.


Applejack on the other hand actually jumped up QUITE a bit this season since they FINALLY started showing HER again for her episodes instead of making "her" episodes about her family instead :/
The mane attraction was great in showing applejack's element, and seeing AJ out of her element in made in manehattan was just freaking adorable. I want more of this stuff for AJ next season.

 

 

Twilight jumped up quite a bit too. While she generally was portrayed as too perfect in the last 2 seasons and existed solely to give people lectures and be a paragon, this season had her Decend into being flawed again and having issues, which was great and bumped her up a bit; Its saying something that i was able to find her enjoyable again given how utterly shitty she felt in the past 2 seasons. Keep it up team.

 

Pinkie pie, I actually feel had the best season. They tried to go back to her season 1 self in that while she was insane, she still had her own internal logic to her actions, and TRULY cared about others above all else (the scene in party pooped with her having the files on how to make others happy and her crying was great).



So for this SEASON, I'd go

1. Pinkie

2. Twilight

3. applejack

4. Rainbow dash

5. Rarity

6. Fluttershy.

That being said, that's more a relative rating of how well they did in comparison to their normal showings. I still rank RD 1 for my most liked and enjoyed pony and twilight 6 for my most hated

S5 was a really great season for Pinkie Pie & Applejack in particular, Rarity too.

However, the Cutie Mark Crusaders truly had it best, obviously. They had that great musical episode and, well, you know, they all got that one thing, them matching butt tattoos.

AJ was brilliant in her appearances, as were Rarity and Pinkie Pie. I think this might be one of the predominant reasons why I enjoyed the season so much

I don't think any of the characters did bad. This was another enjoyable season for me and as a matter of fact I think the writers are doing better at writing season finales. They sure know how to shock, captivate, and keep their audience on the edge of their seats.  That finale was amazing !

I gotta give it to Rarity (the REAL Ra-ra!)

 

She rocked it all season long both in her outfit design and presence. Her VA was on point (Thank you so much Mrs. Germaine!), her animations and facial expressions had my giggeling. But most of all I felt real, REAL development from her. Where as in past seasons focused on her ego, flaws, or mishaps. This one showed her not only address them but use them as a strength.

 

Plus I counted 6 episodes with heavy Rarijack shipping, always a fan!
