So the Queen was never actually "defeated" she was just blown away out of canterlot. So there is a chance she might return.

 

A small chance, but its still there.

 

And Unlike Nightmare Moon or Discord, her return would be easily explained. Unlike those two.

Discord IS returning, so if he can break out of stone twice, I think Chrysalis can fly back to Equestria. Not like she can't just deceive them again to gain entry. She could re-appear as Trixie or something.

Discord IS returning, so if he can break out of stone twice, I think Chrysalis can fly back to Equestria. Not like she can't just deceive them again to gain entry. She could re-appear as Trixie or something.

John de Lancie, Discord's voice actor, confirmed that he recorded lines for season three. Unless he is appearing in flashbacks or as another character entirely, that means Discord is bound to return in some capacity.

I think that we will see the Changelings again, and that could tie into a theme for Season 3.

 

Season 1's theme was Friendship.

 

Season 2's theme seems to have been largely focused on Love.

 

So Season 3's theme might be something like Tolerance.

 

Knowing that, it isn't at all inconceivable that the Changelings might show up again, and perhaps by the end of it all they'll work out their differences with Equestria. That would be the theme of tolerance right there.

 

As far as not seeing them again, Queen Chrysalis overpowered Princess Celestia by herself. In other words, SHE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PRINCESS THAT CONTROLS THE SUN!!! Nobody has ever been able to do that in the series (at least, from what we've seen), not even Luna. She has to know this (her reaction to what she did is pretty strong evidence). And she knows about the Elements of Harmony (she was there when Celestia mentioned them). So she might not show up right away (or it could be the first two episodes of Season 3). But not showing up again could constitute a major plot hole, since we've already seen her nearly take over Equestria, and rather quickly. If she created a more involved plan, like disguising more of her henchmen as high ranking officials, she would probably be able to trick a majority of the ponies into betraying Celestia.

 

Really, I think the major challenge is going to be getting around that barrier. Perhaps, she could get the help of someone that can turn love into hate. Perhaps... a certain draconequus...

Team Rocket jokes aside, the changelings had wings, so being blasted off surely didn't kill them, so there's always a chance for them to come back.

 

There's a lot of plot they could still do with the changelings: imagine if one got into Ponyville and started pretending to be one of the mane 6, saying and doing bad stuff till they're all lashing out at each other. Heck, if then Discord decided to reappear he might actually win.

This very fact has been eating at my imagination ever since I watched the episode. Unlike the other two villians, it is true that Queen Chrysalis was not completely vanquished and could come back for revenge. As for Discord returning...we won't know until season 3. DeLancie's return does not automatically mean Discord will return. I would be quite happy though if Chrysalis returned; she's quickly becoming a favorite villian of mine.

 

One thing, though: people seem to forget that Queen Chrysalis defeated Princess Celestia, but with power that was not her own. I'm quite sure had Chrysalis not fed on Shining Armor's love, she very well would have been defeated by Celestia. With some careful thinking she could win. For one thing, she should first make the mane 6 divided. After taking them out she just needs to find another two ponies in love, turn into one again and use that power against Celestia again.

 

Or simply start to slowly kidnap ponies in small towns and replace them with her minions. By the time Celestia ever noticed something was wrong, she would be overwhelmed.

Discord was outright stronger than everyone; Chrysalis was clearly surprised when she defeated Celestia in their magic beam battle. Either Chrysalis underestimated her own basic strength/overestimated Celestia, or, as Chrysalis did mention, Shining Armor's love truly did make her stronger.

This also makes me think of another scenario. If Chrysalis had somehow kidnapped Zecora, became her copy, and convinced Applebloom to make another love potion (poison), she could feed off of the endless high amounts of love and lust of whichever two ponies she decided to poison. An infinite power supply, basically.

Fun Fact; Queen Chrysalis' voice actress is the same as Trixie's. So if she did that, that would make such amazing sense and be quite clever on the writers' part.

I personally don't see this working out at all. Changlings are violent monsters that feed off of love. And then wrap their victims in cocoons to do God knows what with. And we saw what effects the feeding off of love had on Shining Armor. He was practically a shell of a pony, nearly devoid of personality or even rational thought.

 

Changlings need to do this process to survive. And honestly, would you know anypony willing enough to go through that just so they can be at peace with the demons?

Actually, she herself didn't take down Celestia. It was feeding off of Shining Armor's great love for Cadence that gave her the ability to do so. I'd imagine that after being cut off of the food source, her powers returned to normal, which I'd presume are still quite powerful, but not Celestia standards(She did show shock when she defeated Celestia).

 

My personal theory if that the Changling Army has been retreated from Equestria to some other country. They had a rather humiliating defeat in Canterlot(Lets face it, if you were defeated by the power of love, you'd be embarrassed too), which is a Capital that now knows their tactics as well as how to deal with them now.

 

I believe that if we ever see the Changlings again, it'll simply be as a cameo. Though I do find them quite interesting monsters in the MLP universe, and would like to see more of them.

 

Also, a fun little thing I noticed;

 

 

This is the area the Changling Army blasted off to. This could either be the Desert area where Appleloosa and that one Cherry Town is, the 'Old Equestria' that the Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies originally lived, or, my personal belief, the Changling Hive(Perhaps an underground one?). And I dunno, it seems quite depressing to live in such a dry, inhospitable place that is literally right next to a beautiful paradise filled with all the love you can eat. It would be freaking awesome to see an episode where the Mane 6 go there. Though that's probably a pipe dream.
