movies/tv Is Adventure Time overrated?

"Overrated" is only meaningless if you try to use it objectively. It, like pretty much every other term used in media criticism, is free to interpretation. To me, "overrated" is something that people love but I either can't understand why or don't care for the reasoning behind only after trying it myself. Trixie is overrated. Airplane! is overrated. Family Guy is overrated. In other threads, I could tell you why I can't stand all three of those things.

 

Adventure Time is not something I'm a fan of, but I can't say it's overrated because I've only ever watched a couple of episodes. I'm just not a fan of the art and writing styles of the show, but I still have a lot of respect for it and the people that make it. I'll just watch another show that lines up better with my tastes.

 

On the other side of the coin, I like The Amazing World of Gumball better and will say it's underrated. I could go on for a while about what it does that I think people will like, but that's for another thread.

I asked this question because unlike shows such as FiM, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls, Adventure Time actually has quite a significant presence in mainstream pop culture where I come from (which is the UK). I don't have anything against anyone who genuinely enjoys the series, I have not actually watched the series again since this thread was made.

Is Adventure Time overrated? I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's just popular. I mean, they have t-shirts and stuff.
