Piercings and tattoos, I don't get them

I know some would take offense so if you can't take it, you don't have to read what I have to say.

Now in terms of piercings I have no problem with women that wear earrings as they look good in them. Guys also don't look bad in earrings as well depending on the person I guess.

But then I don't get the whole piercings on the nose and lips. I mean why? No offense it looks bad and what if you get into a fight and someone punches you wear the piercing is on? That would hurt.

Then about tattoos. Tribal markings actually look pretty cool and they have cultural significance based on some form of animism or tribal religion or history. But then there's people that wear tattoos just for the shitz. I mean no offense but when people wear tattoos that bear no meaning but to just look different it just makes their skin look dirty somewhat.

I guess people get piercings because they think it looks cool.

For the tattoo part I think people get them to define themselves and give remembrance to the people that they lost. Like my mother has my deceased uncle's name on her wrist.

Tattoos I can see a point to, since you can get a specific design of something that you cherish. Could be a loved one, a video game you love or even a TV show about colorful ponies, whatever show that is. Plus there are many tattoos that are impressive works of art as well. I don't plan on getting a tattoo myself, but they are pretty cool to me.

Now piercings, I don't see the point to them. I really don't. To me, all it is, is just stabbing your party to display something shiny. Some earrings can be nice looking in their design, but the standard studs, I really see no purpose. Tongue piercings has got to be one of the most confusing things ever to me, as it serves no general purpose whatsoever. I mean, 99% of the time, nobody is going to see it, so why bother?

Now, personally I think that tattoos can really be beautiful when it's something meaningful and that can help the person who has one to maybe hide a scar, or just get inked something that they really love and would like to share. To me it's no big deal to get a tattoo

Now piercings I see them as like an extension to one's personality and person, it's more fashionable to me than getting a tattoo, because most piercings are like trends, a lot of people not long ago got a septum piercing because it was cool, now it's 'regular' nostril piercing. It doesn't matters to me at all and bothers me even less

(in fact I'm planning on getting tattooed, getting a septum piercing and a nostril ring :3)

Why do some people wear tank tops and others wear polo shirts? Why do some people style their hair and others leave it natural? Why do some people drive cars and others ride motorbikes?

It's all just personality. Some people like things that others don't. I'm not a piercings person. I have no desire to get a piercing. But that doesn't at all make piercings bad. I like tattoos. I don't care if a tattoo has significant meaning. If you like a tattoo and want one, then get it. If you don't, then don't. There is nothing wrong with liking things people don't.

I will never understand the appeal of football. I have no desire to go and see a game of cricket either. I'd much rather go and see a movie or theatre performance. But I know people who have no interest in watching movies. Am I wrong for not liking sports venues? Are they wrong for not liking films and musicals? Not at all. And it's vain to try and state that your own preferences are better than someone else's preferences. Why should I care if someone else goes and watches sports, or gets piercings?

Except you can wear or take off tank tops and polo shirts. Piercings require you to take that pain and I can't see any visual appeal on the nose or lip. And tattoos once you put that on you can't take it off and there is a chance that tattooing can actually get you diseases from infections transmitted from others.

Annddd....? Who cares? You don't think it looks good, fair enough. Don't get one. Why should it matter if someone else has piercings and tattoos? Yes, there's risks involved such as infections. There's risks involved in everyday life. Dreadlocks look bad(opinion) and are a pain in the ass to remove. But I see no reason as to why people shouldn't be fine to have those without judgement.

You don't think tattoos and piercings look good. Good for you, don't get any. It's pretty simple. :smug:

I'm just telling you that it takes more commitment to wear piercings and tattoos and that it's not worth it.

That statement is entirely subjective. It might not be worth it to you, but it's worth it to others. There's nothing wrong with getting piercings or tattoos, and people shouldn't be judged for it.

I know some may take this as sexist, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but it's how I feel. Tattoos are manish.

I don't get tattoos on women. I mean a man can pull them off with a sense of ruggedness like a navy man. And even that is when the tattoos are minimal.

But I keep seeing women putting those things on their beautiful bodies and it just looks bad. It's like someone taking some beautiful architecture, and then putting graffiti all on it. It just looks ghetto and trashy. Plus, the female body with dark blotches on it doesn't look good to me, I'm sorry.

Afraid your wrong there. Tattoo's can be removed.... it just takes a very, very powerful laser and hurts like a b***h. It also extremely expensive XD

Personally, I'm all for tattoos... just not in really, really bizarre places...

Personally for me piercings and tattoo's are kind of like expressing your identity and who you as a person, I want my nose pierced so I can look more androgynous for example. However the same also corresponds to my belief in tattoo's, art that has had an impactful part in your life and a tattoo which is a constant reminder of it is always good.

Alright don't get so upset.

You said that tattooed people look dirty. I think you should be able to understand why some would take offense to that. I didn't even bother pointing out issues in your OP, but I might as well.

You point out that the painful process is a reason not to get piercings, but are okay with ear piercings.

You bring up issues in fights. you know what else hurts during a fight? Getting punched. Regardless of any piercings. You know what an easy solution to that is? Not to get into fist fights.

You justify sentimental tattoos, but then say people with tattoos look dirty. How do you know that their tattoos don't have significant meaning? Why are you only fine with people having tattoos that fit their stereotype(in terms of tribal)?

Seems like the whole thing is just a reason for you to complain about people, who are simply doing something they enjoy. Surely you can see why some people would find this upsetting.

People with tattoos especially the ones that look like a lot of random pictures does make their skin look dirty to me. The same way I feel when I go to a public bathroom and see graffit all over it and then the bathroom feels a lot more dirtier.

It's as simple as that. How else should I explain it?

You seemed so surprised that someone took offense to you saying such. Even now, you're comparing a person to graffiti on a public bathroom. We get it, you don't like tattoos. Doesn't mean you have to say this sort of stuff. Whether or not someone wants a tattoo or piercing is none of your business. If they like it, they have every right to get it. Just as you have every right to not get one and also not be judged by the tattoo/piercing community for not having one.

I disagree with what he said too. But this here is a conversation between two people, and you're the one who started it off with the OP. Don't be upset by the fact that someone doesn't appreciate what you said. Certainly when it was in such a rude manner, and you still can't see why what you said was so insulting.

Some people like things you don't. That doesn't make them bad or 'dirty'. you wouldn't appreciate someone telling you that, now would you.

Okay then, "the tattoos hide the true beauty underneath."

Did that make you feel better? Because I don't care if you take offense anymore.

That's a more polite way to put it. Yet it doesn't matter much as you still don't see the problems with what you said. You're fine to have your opinion and dislike tattoos and piercings. That's perfectly fine. What is not fine, is putting people down because of it. You wouldn't go up to a tattooed person and call them dirty. That's just being an asshole. Likewise, you should go online and call tattooed people dirty either. Pretty rude tbh.

If it weren't for my huge fear of needles, I'd seriously get a pony tattoo. Heck, maybe more than one. Why? I like ponies, I think tattoos can be cool, why not? Personally though, I also don't "Get" piercings. Those are weird to me, but...so what? Other people think they look good, they're not wrong either.

It's really just a matter of opinion. Some people don't like the way tattoos look, that's fine. Some people think they look really cool, or even legitimately beautiful. Maybe it has real meaning to them, maybe it's just "This would look neat". There are lots of reasons someone might get a tattoo, or a piercing.

It's hilarious when someone starts a topic and has to say "no offense" because they know they're gonna offend somebody.

It's equally hilarious when they post a double standard like "it's okay to get them on the ears BUT NOWHERE ELSE" or "It's okay to have tribal tattoos because they mean something but nothing else".

Dash it all, maybe I should give up my plans to get a tattoo. It might offend people like the OP.

Tattoos seem trashy, no matter what the tattoo is. Our bodies are works of art on their own. A tattoo on it is like graffiti on top of the Mona Lisa, or some other great, respected painting. Is it respect to your body by having sharp needles poked in it, to have unnatural inks and substances injeced into your skin?

Our bodies are more akin to a biological machine, not art.

And I'd think you're respecting your body more by trying to make it look better.
