----- 477 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 (edited) I do not know if this topic got addressed already, but I was just looking at my Zecora figure and wondered if the symbol on her flank is really a cutie mark. Sure, in The Journal of the Two Sisters Luna calls the symbols of the zebras cutie marks, but it is never actually mentioned if the zebras do it as well or how they get them. To me it feels a bit like that she just called the symbols that because she only knew cutie marks as a comparison. So, what do you guys think? Are the symbols really cutie marks and if yes, how do the zebras get them? In the same way as ponies or in another? I personally think that those symbols are indeed some kind of cutie mark. But I kinda like the idea that the zebras are born with them and have to figure out what they mean. (Is just a weird idea, don't question it.) And on a side note: I know Zecora's symbol is apparently supposed to be a spiral sun, but I always saw it more as a flower, an ingredient for her potions. At least it would fit her more than a sun. ShadOBabe 19,028 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 I've heard that "officially" they are, but it's confusing. What makes the equine species, Zebra, have cutie marks, but neglects to bestow them on donkeys, mules, saddle arabians, etc? 2 Check out my artwork any time: http://shadobabe.deviantart.com/ "OMG; You are such a troll. Hazy Skies 1,010 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 Hmm.. This is an interesting topic.. I think you're right about Celestia calling the markings on the zebra's flanks "cutie marks" by comparing them to the common marks of the other races.. I'd say the "cutie marks" for the zebras are one way of telling eachother apart, as unlike the other races, there are no color variant with the zebras.. As for "gaining" them.. Perhaps zebras are actually born with these markings? Maybe..
azbat 311 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 And what about spotted ponies like Pipsqeak?
cmarston1 5,964 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 That could be interesting, but seeing as Zecora is the only zebra in the show and we don't see her very often, I don't think the show will go into much depth if any at all about this. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 They seem to be Cutie Marks, but perhaps they represent something different for them. They could represent family or a tribe or they could function like CM's and represent the zebra themselves. I don't see them being painted on or anything, that would be an odd place to put a painting like that. XD And what about spotted ponies like Pipsqeak? Pipsqueak.png He be cute, that's what he be. :3 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
Limeblossom 482 January 18, 2016 Share January 18, 2016 The show doesn't make the zebra part extensive when it comes to Cutie Marks, but I believe it's a Cutie Mark anyway. Steve Piranha 29,496 January 19, 2016 Share January 19, 2016 (edited) And what about spotted ponies like Pipsqeak? Pipsqueak.png Well, he's even younger than most foals, so he's probably not of age for discovering his cutie mark. Back on topic, I dunno if zebras can get cutie marks, as the only ones shown in any MLP media, are Zecora, Braze, an evil zebra from Dashie's chapterbook, and a community of them who lived deeper in the Everfree in the Journal of the Two Sisters. I don't remember either Braze nor those Everfree zebras being described with butt symbols Edited January 21, 2016 by Steve Piranha Sig by Discords
PinkieatHeart 208 January 20, 2016 Share January 20, 2016 Maybe zebras don't normally get them and Zecora has a special magical story about getting one.
