If it's going to be ANOTHER animated sitcom where they try to be as offensive as possible, where all the characters are a-holes, and turns into a political soapbox, consider me out. Hey Matt Groening, just because you made animated sitcoms popular, doesn't mean you get to rip yourself off.

At least Groening's shows are distinct from each other, unlike MacFarlane.

The creator of the Simpsons and Futurama is working on a Netflix-exclusive animated series.

It's been a while since Groening made an all new series. Color me interested.

I love all of his shows, I might renew my Netflix subscription if it's as great as Bob's Burgers

You sure you're not getting him confused with Seth McFarlane? Futurama ain't a family sitcom, and Bob's Burgers is very different from the Simpsons. Also his stuff is far from offensive

EDIT: I could've sworn he made Bob's Burgers, apparently not tumblr_m8df9jQQae1robip0.gif

First off, Matt Groening has no involvement with Bob's Burgers (though I can see why you would assume that, Bob's Burgers has a similar style to the Simpsons).

Second, it's just that adult cartoons take so much from Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, all of them feel so interchangeable with their style of humor. Heck the recent Bordertown cartoon is just another carbon copy of other cartoons Fox has been releasing. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest Simpsons fan out there because I grew up watching other cartoons, but I fear Matt Groening's style will rub off in this new cartoon, and if it's any good, then fine it's good. But honestly, I wish more cartoons aimed at older audiences would take a page from more recent cartoons like Steven Universe and MLP. I think the world of animation could be a better vehicle for storytelling, not just sitcoms or irreverent comedies, but much more broader and diverse genres.

I just want cartoons to tell really good stories without the need to be a contest of who stuff as many irrelevant pop culture references as much as possible or how can my cast be as two-dimensional as possible.

Wait really? Damn that's two fuck ups I made today. I could have sworn hearing he made it.....

Then this makes your argument even more shakey, if he's only made two shows, both Futurama and the Simpsons, and Futurama is no where near the same as the Simpsons

Most adult cartoons take a lot more inspiration from South Park than they do Family Guy or the Simpsons, and the SImpsons is far, far from offensive, especially compared to other adult cartoons(especially when Matt Groening was at the helm)

You need to give Matt Groening more credit(because I'm positive your mistakening him for McFarlane), he was in charge of the Simpsons in its glory days, and Futurama is one of the best animated shows out there, without needing to borrow much from the Simpsons

I don't like adult cartoons that think being "adult" is just being as disgusting, violent, vulgar, and offensive as possible.
