ManaMinori 4,149 February 5, 2016 Share February 5, 2016 Since we've seen war across multiple episodes, speceisism, racism, communism, forced brainwashing, death fakeouts, banishment, forced reform, etc. do you think FiM will address issues (long term, like they do with Fluttershy) such as overcoming parental abandonment, overcoming self esteem, self-inflicted mental punishment (coughLunacough), or deep- rooted depression, or eating disorders, or things such as these? 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
creepypastaeater 256 February 5, 2016 Share February 5, 2016 It's a slight possibility, though if they were to touch upon these topics it would be rather difficult. They would have to turn down the tone as not to depress children to much, though they also couldn't treat it so lightly, as it may offend those who struggled with such issues.
Guest February 5, 2016 Share February 5, 2016 It's a slight possibility, but I am doubtful due to Hasbro not being very progressive.
Chuckles4lyfe 441 February 5, 2016 Share February 5, 2016 All of the issues that you have listed that MLP has already tackled, I already find very deep and compelling. Just compare where we are now to what we had 5 years ago. I could never imagine an episode like Amending Fences airing back in Season 1 or 2. Do I think the show will cover 'deeper issues'? Only time will tell, but DHX has certainly surprised me more than once . 1 #Squadgoals "But that day...The day I discovered racing...I proved that the legends were true. Starflite527 25 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 Well, some of the issues you mentioned have been quite deep, but with this medium there are limits, as it is still a show about cartoon ponies for little girls at its core. If they tried to make an episode on eating disorders or something along those lines, it would be hard for little kids to process, but as @creepypastaeater said, they can't treat it too lightly, otherwise that would hurt people who are in that kind of situation. 1 Signature by Kyoshi
Treble Sketch 360 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 With this happening, there might/will be a chance that the rating on the show may go up. The issues here would be too deep for the current rating. But if they do tackle the issue, I would be very interested at how the writers would go about doing that. Looks like we will just have to wait and see Twitter | (Art) Blog | Steam | GitLab/GitHub Ask for my Telegram, Discord, or Riot if you want them to contact me. Aurora Storm 83 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 Zecora's introduction to the series in season 1 kind of touched on racism a bit..especially where Rarity commented on Zecora's stripes and they told her that's her natural skin. I feel like it could have been explained a bit better as they were really more interested the mane 6 dealing with poison joke than learning about another culture/someone who looks different however. Jest (Inactive) 875 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 (edited) I really hope it doesn't, it is nice to have something innocent to watch without the BS of real life coming in to it, I love the fact it is just pure innocent fun. It is very unlikely that it will unhappen as MLP is still aimed at Children. Keep this stuff to the fanfics in my opinion Edited February 11, 2016 by Jestwinged 2 -Amateur Artist- http://jestwinged.deviantart.com/ Signature by ~Kyoshi~
SomeRetroGeek 110 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 Well, it's a high chance they will, seeing as though they've talked about communism and other things you wouldn't see or hear addressed in other kids shows. He looks at modern stuff too if your curious! Huge thanks to DanishToenails for my profile picture!
Concerned Bystander 2,905 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 (edited) I really hope not, when I want to see mature topics being handled in a serious manner I watch House, Breaking Bad or any number of other programs. I watch cartoons precisely because they're light-hearted and fun. Edited February 11, 2016 by Concerned Bystander
Number62 1,267 February 12, 2016 Share February 12, 2016 I'm up for that only if it's done well.
Sazama Ichida 2,367 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 The show actually already covered what you're talking about in a way. Zebras are the black people of MLP FiM. Death was replaced with hibernation. And communism was represented too. 1 The White Shinigami
Akemi Homura 7,682 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 Viewers should go and see other shows if they want "deep issues" being covered. FiM should stick to its roots; that's how it got its charm in the first place.
Leave a Whisper 703 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 (edited) Why should it have to? Very seldom can a cartoon do issues without feeling pushy, preachy and awkward. Go watch ATLA. It was perhaps the only cartoon I can think of that handled deeper and complex issues intelligently and naturally. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 I would love to see a character that has depression or perhaps hardcore anxiety, though Flutters probably falls under this or at times Twilight. A character that has a long term problem like that and while it may not be taken care of in one episode, it can establish that having friends can help so much or having support form your family as well. It would be a complicated thing for a show like this to tackle though, especially since kids more often than not don't experience depression, at least for any extended periods of time. Some definitely do but it is a minority case I think. Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
MAIKUN 262 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 I wish there was an MLP episode about how to let your friends go. Cause sometimes friendships end and you have to learn to accept it. Personally I would like to see an episode focusing on the CMC saying goodbye to each other by disbanding and ending their friendship at the same time.
