SaburoDaimando 1,196 February 12, 2016 Share February 12, 2016 For those of you who go to TV Tropes, you all recall the trope "Hijacked by Ganon." This is where a previous villain a) Is behind the new villain or another villain or Sabotages the current villain's plan just to take center stage Previously, Discord pulled this off in Princess Twilight Sparkle Part 1 and 2. But what about another villain who isn't...REFORMED? So far, I only know of three that can pull it off. 1) Queen Chrysalis: She can disguise herself, even taking the role of the villain. What more can I say? 2) King Sombra: In my mind, there is a phrase that says "While evil can be diminished, it can NEVER be vanquished." There is a chance that Sombra can be the villain behind the central villain, having been brought back from the dead to get his revenge on the protagonists(Maybe taking place before a certain 4-part IDW Comics). 3) Lord Tirek: Actually, I want this to happen since Tirek is the closest thing My Little Pony has to Ganondorf of the Legend of Zelda. The best thing he can do is come out of nowhere, take out the main villain of the 2-parter, and become the main villain for the rest of the episode. What do you think? What villain do you think is most likely to pull the "Hijacked by Ganon" trope?
cmarston1 5,964 February 12, 2016 Share February 12, 2016 I could actually see King Sombra pulling something like this off if he were to ever reform after the events of The Crystal Empire and appear in the show again. I think it could actually be pretty interesting to see happen.
Megas 28,133 February 12, 2016 Share February 12, 2016 (edited) I'm not a big fan of this trope. As much as I loved Twilight Princess, Zant was a fantastic villain and felt the introduction of Ganon at the end was pretty half-assed and wound up hurting Zant a lot. Ganon can fuck off. I don't want to be engrossed in a new villain only to find out some old jack-off was behind everything, it rarely ever works(only time I ever liked this was in MGS2 with both Liquid Ocelot and the Patriots) Edited February 12, 2016 by Megas

Zant was alot more compelling than ganon in that his original motivation of being angered at being imprisoned by the gods worked well. he had a good motivation and came off well as a villain. Ganon's motivation was just "Power for the sake of power", which isn't bad IN MODERATION, but ruined the entire story they had going and was completely unnecessary. What villain do you think is most likely to pull the "Hijacked by Ganon" trope? Not Sombra. Definitely not him. He's already had a comic where he turned good, and he was never received well by the fans or shown to be really the top tier of threats. Tirek is the only one I could see pulling it off believably. Chrysalis is good, but I don't think she's quite got the chops to usurp another villain unless that villian sucks already, while Tirek's already done it to Discord himself, establishing his threat.
Castle Bleck 19,449 February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 (edited) And didn't Starlight technically already do that multiple times when she caused all the other villains' alternate timelines? and he was never received well by the fans or shown to be really the top tier of threats. I disagree: 1. It was his screentime that wasn't well-received (and even then, The Cutie Re-Mark seemed to fix that somewhat); Sombra himself is actually immensely popular in fan works. 2. At his peak, he was almost as powerful as Discord (You kind of have to be in order be able to conquer an entire kingdom by yourself, necessitate the intervention of 2 Alicorns at once, still cast a massive-scale curse despite being defeated, negate other people's magic, combine a haunted door with trippy pocket-dimension effects, etc.), though with more limits (such as being unable to touch "love" magic). Wind Chaser 4,768 February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 This reminds me of when Tommy Oliver implicated Nightmare Moon in possibly doing such a thing in "A Canterlot Wedding", moonlighting as Queen Chrysalis. Considering Luna's unexplained absence, I'd buy it, but she could just be sleep-deprived for all we know. All of them could just as easily be on the other side of this trope as they could be the puppetmasters of a future villain.
Silver Letter 1,832 February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 Previously, Discord pulled this off in Princess Twilight Sparkle Part 1 and 2. Can you explain that? I don't remember Discord being a villain and there wasn't any other villain to upstage. Silver Letter!!! He was the one who planted the Plunderseeds just before Celestia and Luna beat him the first time. Unlikeable Pony 2,700 February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 Honestly, the only current villain that I really feel would work organically in a "hijacked by ganon" kind of way would be to have the Pony of shadows be shown to not only exist but be behind the scenes; It wouldn't come out of nowhere since it had been "is it real?" hinted at in castlemania, and would feel kind of natural in the way that Cerberus leaving his post connected to a future event. You could even try and tie together some scenes from later episodes, like saying that Spike's comic book wasn't SOLD magically by the shop but the Shadow enchanted it to try and get rid of them when they were at the castle, or whatnot. Yes but he wasn't a proper villain when he waited for the seeds to consume the tree. I don't think he had any nefarious intent although maybe allowing the tree to suffocate could have been seen as evil. Silver Letter!!!
