Is Flash just using Twilight as a rebound?

There's not much to really like about this guy, but the the sudden attraction he's shown to display to Twilight from the beginning is just out of nowhere....or is it? Could it be that he's merely seeing all of Sunset Shimmer's qualities in Twilight, and is, in fact, still in love with Sunset?

 

Starting from the scene where they first meet, Twilight literally bumps into him, trying to slip out of a large crowd. This is possibly how he and Sunset met, if Sunset had also first gone through the portal, and was inexperienced with humans.

 

Rarity mentions that it was Flash who broke up with her- for whatever reason (perhaps her grown bitchiness over time got to him) but they were together long enough for Sunset to learn how to be taught to play guitar (with human hands), like Flash. And at the first movie, it has only been a few weeks since they broke up, and Flash starts sniffing out Twi.Hardly enough time to get over a past relationship.

 

The only time he speaks to Sunset is in Rainbow rocks, under the siren's posession, insulting her. But what he says seems off, not as stinging an insult as one might imagine...."there's the bad girl we love to hate". Why does he say it in that way? Love put into the wording just seems strange.

 

Is Flash just seeing the qualities of Sunset mirrored in Twilight, and is still attracted to SS, while Twi is an unrocipricated rebound?

No, he isn't. Flash is Walking Cardboard, but he has morals. To use Twilight as a rebound means he thinks of her as a toy. That puts him at a level no better than Sunset during EQG1; it's incredibly out of character of him.

But in all seriousness, he's meant to be the "nice, cool kid".I doubt the writers would make him write him that way, it would make fans somehow hate him even more 

 

That said, his relationship with Sunset is something I'd like to see them touch up on, it's actually interesting to think about how he ended up with someone as much of a bitch as early Sunset

I'm not saying he's doing it intentionally, which WOULD make him a jerk....but subconsciously- he's seeing everything in Twi that he saw in Sunset at the beginning, and possibly still is, and falling for that, possibly still having feelings for the Sunset he first fell for. (We did sget a glimpse of how innocent she was, in her first year at CHS, in a picture that showed progression of SS through each Fall Formal, in Celestia's office) it could be that Flash is unaware of it, himself.

Honestly, I wish they would go for that angle. I don't think doing so would make him a dick, because emotions are funny in ways we don't always understand, but exploring the issues and having him realize SciTwi (because I'll be damned if I ever ship pony Twilight with him) really isn't the same person as Sunset even though there are a lot of similarities between them. It might also lead him to develop genuine feelings for her as they get to know each other better over time, and it might even turn him into an actual character, with a retroactive justification, albeit a rather flimsy one, for his initial attraction to Twilight.

 

This still wouldn't address Twilight's infatuation out of nowhere, but it might fix some of the issues.

Well, actaully we do not know how long Sunset and Flash were a couple or if he even was in love with her.

Maybe he was only in the relationship for the sake of being in a relationship (or more of trying out how it is to be in one), like Sunset had a realtionship with him only to become more popular and maybe they were a couple for only two weeks or so. ._.

Flash was explored more on the first movie but they seemed to have dropped him out of the radar for some time. Him alerting the others of Sunset Shimmer's wrongdoings was his only real act which did prove that he was more loyal to Twilight than Sunset. Of course this makes him a bit of a measly character like Spike. I would rather they explore the relationship Flash and Twilight can develop in the fourth movie. There's no reason to leave him out in the cold. If they're working on male characters like they did with Big Mac and Shining Armor, there's no reason to not bring Flash up to date.

I really wish that they would show more interaction between flash and sunset! There could be an amazing love triangle going on there! Haha! I don't think it's a rebound because sunset even said that they weren't into each other... she was just using him for popularity? I dunno!
