AJ had her eyes retconned from being black dots and flurry hearts continues that change; I'm pretty sure all Foals from this point on will have the normal anime eyes look instead of the creepy black dots.This is most likely due to fan response, as the eyes were recieved pretty negatively; I don't know about pound and pumpkin though since they've had several appearances by now. In regards to my own opinion the design of the Cake Twins was severely off-putting and not really cute. Flurry Heart, on the other hoof, is just SO adorable in my eyes. The cake twins have colored dots for eyes because they're not meant to be central focused characters. More noticeable eyes on a character gives the impression that they're more important than beady-eyed ones. It's not so much a retcon, I think, as it is character prioritizing.
