Im thinking a post twice a week is a must but i plan to let things go on a slow pace so ppl can keep up!  No rushing or etc!

Well why I want ppls ideas in joining,   i want this to be just not my rp but "ours" but i think a bit of the idea of a game system and it also depends in what is made for the role play.

 

How is the fighting going to work? And can we have pokemons from different regions?

im thinking yes,  just keeping to 4 for now to keep things easy for some of us old timers to join in the fun or even making a new land with pokemon with other areas filling it in.

Are characters going to BE pokemon, are they trainers, are there gym battles, who plays the gym leaders? How would we track inventory, pokemon in boxes, EVs, IVs, movesets, TM/HMs, and so on?

 

I love the idea, just needs some polishing.

I am very interested. Mostly because I like a good ol' Pokemon Roleplay. I think largely it is a very good series that has been dulled down because of repetition and becoming less engaging with the story elements as it was in the past.

 

I saw the first post and the ones after, and I'm still confused whether it's going to be the anime-style (Trainers and Pokemon) or the Dungeon series (Users RPing as Pokemon). 

 

If it is going to be the anime-style, I am all-in. However, I don't think it would be smart to create an entire leveling system, inventory system, and replicate the item system to the point that it causes too many complexities. Then you would need moderation (Someone to overlook battles, Roleplay as Wild Pokemon, and important battles in story), If that's the case, it seems like a lot of work and takes out the elements where the Roleplayers can interject ideas and  becomes more or less the Dungeons and Dragons format of roleplay (unless you are looking for that).

 

If we are looking for more Free-Form Pokemon Roleplay, then I think that would be a story and plot just in the Pokemon Universe. The Gym Battles and Pokemon will be irrelevant since  it will be more focused around a certain driving plot element. Unless, that is worked in story and there will be a need to make more Gym Leaders. Plus, free-form makes it so that roleplayers can take these roles (Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Organization Members, Rangers, etc) and make them part of the story.

 

So is it going to be Free-form or will it be moderated D&D style?

How about this for a story: 

 

Every single one of us plays a pokemon whom are currently captured on a remote Team Rocket base. Jesse and James are the lowest rung of team rocket, they haven't even got the new uniforms they are so under the radar. The REAL Team Rocket is as dark and cruel (as this site would allow lol) as you could imagine. The goal is to escape your prisons or experiments and make your way outside. That is not going to be easy though, as this subterranean base is built to withstand a barrage of hyper beams and marauding pokemon, and they have no qualms about using force to take down escapees.

On one very specific night, the power goes out for a short period of time, shorting out the cells that had been holding all the pokemon. That is when everyone makes their escape. 

 

The pokemon you'd pick will only have four moves, plus what is reasonable to expect from the pokemons body type and stature (an Onix could certainly throw its weight around without needing a move allocated for it for example) . Those Four moves can be used in anyway that is deemed reasonable and creative for that move, but just like the PP system you will only have so many uses of a given move -- the more powerful move it is the less uses you have out of it until you recharge via resting. 

 

There will be two types of pokemon there

 

Fresh captures and Corrupted/Experimented on Pokemon 

 

The Fresh Captures have the moves sets and behavior one would expect out of whatever the pokemon is

 

The Corrupted ones had been experimented on and altered, usually they are angry or crazy and their move set isn't necessarily the same as what would befit their type. They may even be able to speak like Meowth. Point is, Corrupted Pokemon will be more ruthless than their normal counterparts, but they could both be on the same side depending on how the corrupted ones feel about their imprisonment.

No, the pokemon escaping the team rocket hideout could be whatever pokemon you want. The enemy is probably going to be all Rattata and zubat, but you're pokemon is whomever you want it to be. You are escaping team rocket not working for them.

Yes. I'm a totally obseessed with Pokemon, so a RP with it would be fun. Althouh, it kinda needs plot.

 

And, I prefer Showdown over Smogon, but I can use Smogon if y'all wan't.

Well we are sticking to the first two gens, and there weren't a whole lot of Legendaries up to that point, much less anything that would be viable in this setting since its a subterranean Team Rocket Lair and the vast majority of the first two gen's legendary pokemon were gigantic birds.

 

D/D and text roleplaying don't mesh as well as you'd think, at least in my experience. You'd have to have a really dedicated Dungeon master who can juggle all the posts and its just no where near as good as when its done via skype call or in person.

So the corrupted ones are like delta species pokemon?

if you don't know what they are:

 

They are a set of pokemon in the tcg that have a different typing an moveset than they normally have, some I remember were dark type meowth and fighting type eggsecutor

You know what I'd love? A forum-based pokemon roleplay that DOESN'T need to rely on cheap tricks like "Buy Shiny Ponemon for 5,000 points! Get 1 point for every post!" to keep idiots hooked, and will let you seek out the pokemon you want to get the team you want without making you overly rely on the RNG.

I disagree. The Mew duo, Celebi, and the Legendary Beasts are the ones that come to mind.

 

Also, you lost me on the Text-based roleplaying and Dungeon Master moderation thing. I think I can even give a good moderation if it comes to having a dungeon master. As long as everyone motivation is the follow a story and have fun, I don't see anyone trying to be too wound up around the system.

 

But the question bothers me now, Tao. In what touches would you like the system to be D/D?

 

EDIT; Yeah, SilverStar, I would love to Roleplay a forum like that or even a story without the need of a binding system with restrictions and a lot of rules.
