technology PS4 hacked to run Linux and possibly SteamOS

Kudos for the hackers to make other OS working on the console.

 

I still have some questions about the possibilities like:

- Do some of you have SteamOS?

- Is it possible to run non-gaming software on it and GOG games? CDProjectRed indicates they're making their games working on the SteamOS. Just founded out that using some GOG games on the OS is possible.

- Is it possible to erase the PS4 OS?

Well! It's definitely great to see the great hardware of PS4 having some sensible use...

Shows how Linux can really run anywhere...  I kinda really have my doubts as to how useful this is, as there will likely be many compatibility issues (geez, 7000+ changes in *KERNEL*) But it's still an octacore processor computer for under 500 bucks... Kinda cute.

It could help Sony's statement that the PS4 is just as strong as an 8th generation gaming PC.

Open Source is popular indeed, but Sony still doesn't want to do anything with it anymore.

True. The hack could make the PS4 a payable Linux computer/Steam Machine.
