gaming PlayStation VR Will be $399

So Sony unveiled the PLayStation VR which is set for an October release. The device apparently will require the $60 PlayStation camera as well. This price tag sets it higher than the console itself.

Now I think this price is a little steep, but it still is more affordable than the oculus, due too the fact that an oculus ready PC is pretty pricey. However Sony may be shooting themselves in the foot with this high price tag because it will discourage those who want to "try" it from getting it. They will wait and see if it's for them. That being said though, the device has a processor in it so it will interpret data from the system without using extra resources. That is definitely a smart idea. Keep the games in the same quality.

I am probably going to get one as this still is the cheapest VR experience next to the GearVR. What do you guys think? Will the $399 price tag push you away?

The hidden 60 dollar additional price of the playsation camera is going to turn me off, but I'm biased against sony. Out of the vr options, it will be cheapest next to a samsung gear vr so I'd imagine many euthsiasts will be happy if they're interested in it.

Unsurprising. VR is gonna be costly as it's still such a niche piece of technology. I really have to stress to that this shouldn't be regarded negatively. It won't matter who people go to, VR tech in this day and age will be pretty expensive. I don't own a PS4, so I'll probably be more inclined to look at something like the Oculus as my gear. But even so, it's safe to say that there is no need to grab any VR gear just yet. Giving it a few years will allow the tech to advance, becoming cheaper and better whilst also having a better catalogue of games at their disposal. I'm certain that these companies also know that VR tech will take a while to catch on.

I can't help but feel it's an overpriced peripheral, one that currently costs MORE than the PS4 no less on top of hidden costs like the Playstation camera and the "optional" move, on top of already needing a PS4 for it. There's definitely a lot of hype going for it with the VR hype train and the fact that it's cheaper than all other forms of VR, but judging from Sony's past experience dropping support for anything that isn't a home console after a year or two, it'll be interesting to see where this goes to say the least

Sucks tha tthe camera isn't included but I think that is a fair price, since its very new technology. Besides, Its not coming out until October so plenty of time to nab the camera before that, and even then as we get into the holidays the camera will probably go down to like $20.

Very excited for it and I plan to get it. I am ready for new tech, especially in gaming as i feel gaming has gotten stale over the last 2 years or so. Time to shake things up a little.

I don't own a PS4 or a gaming PC for the other pices of VR kit, but the prices on these are insane. First, you need a system that will work with it. Then, you will need games that work with it. Then, you have to buy the headset. I would like to say that these will be like HDTV's where their price will be insane at first until they become commonplace, but I am not sure if these ever will be commonplace. Depends on the support I guess, but I will never be paying for more than the entire console for the unit.

I'm not convinced that the tech is worth the investment at this point, impressive as it may be. The price isn't great but neither is the prospect of it becoming antiquated in a short time span by something superior and cheaper to produce. Buying a peripheral for more than the core system sets up high expectations for a transformative gaming experience which I'm dubious as to whether this VT delivers. So I probably won't be getting it.

Also: If I'm going this far for that kind of gameplay I'd just opt for a superior system that costs some more. Oculus basically.

I am hoping at the very least, games that don't support VR will at least be able to be played on the headset without VR support. Like first person shooters are already more or less VR ready. If it at least does that, I'll be very happy because it will at least give it a use as a TV. That alone will make it worth $400, but if they limit it to where the device won't even work unless an app is VR enabled, it'll drastically reduce the usefulness of it.
