~Backstory~

( This takes place 500 years before season 1 )

Slightly less than a thousand years ago, a great evil arose in the draconic lands. One that sought to bathe the world in fire. The ponies did not wish to disturb their great ruler, Celestia, for she was still in mourning of her sister's banishment. As such, they needed to find great heroes capable of fighting such a force. A solution was proposed: A grand tournament. A tournament where heroes from all over Equus gathered to fight in a test of strength and willpower and determination, to find the mightiest heroes to be sent to vanquish the evil.

Many hours of preparation went into the tournament. The greatest architects gathered to construct the arena and even greater sorcerers poured their magic into creating portals to summon monsters from whole other worlds. And most importantly, the greatest Mormons were sent from door to door all over the globe, spreading news of the great tournament.

And indeed, they came. Heroes, from all over. Minotaurs. Dragons. Dragon-minotaurs. Dragon-ponies. A very big goldfish. A stupidly OP cat.

Round after round, they fought until few were left standing. A select elite that would be sent to vanquish the evil and be hailed as heroes forever.

Unfortunately ( or fortunately ) for them, it would seem that their grand trial was for naught, as Celestia had finished the big bucket of ice cream she had been crying over and had decided to get off her plot and smite the fuck outta whatever evil was there.

With the evil vanquished, there was no more need for the grand tournament. They were prepared to close it down, but then, they realised:

Everyone had a heck lot of fun.

Creatures of all species bonded merrily over a fire, setting aside their differences for the language of battle. Having species from all over the globe participate in a single tournament also drastically improved diplomatic relations. The refreshment vendors at the tourney finished with their barrels full of money rather than mead.

Besides, they had this giant arena lying around, it'd be a waste to abandon it. Greenpeace would have their asses.

And thus, it was decided that the tournament would be held every year from then on.

This is the 500th Grand Tournament, and your OC for whatever reason has decided to participate. By this time, the tournament has become less of a hero selection process and more of money making event for businesses just like Christmas. As such, there's a reasonable entrance fee, and hey, now you don't get kicked out of the tournament the second you lose. A point scoring system is now in place: You win points based on your participation in events. But there are really great prizes. Full sized snickers? Great! However, the merry atmosphere of the tournament still remains. It's all fun and games after all!

This is a lighthearted Action-ish RP with SOL elements whenever you're not fighting. However, later on, the story may take a more... Story driven turn.

Rules:

-standard RP rules and common sense

- You may only post twice until every other member of the RP has posted, at which the counter resets, with the exception of battles. This is a more loose version of post rotation.

- Please be active. Promise you will be active. If I perform a background check and see that you have a history of going inactive, your chances of getting admitted are slim

Combat: I'm sure that this RP will involve quite a lot of action. I'll control NPCs, but i may hand control of some of them over to you in specific circumstances. If it's between 2 RPers, I'll let you settle who wins. If you guys can't decide I'll flip a 3 sided coin.

DM's note: I'm sorry that I have to be so strict with accepting, but it's the only way I can prevent the RP from dieing.

Description of the arena because someone's too lazy to draw a map

It's basically like a thin shopping mall shaped like a huge circle around the main arena with several smaller open-air fighting grounds scattered around the plains around it. It's really huge.

Tournament Staff

> Excalibur: The tournament's host. A large white stallion with a golden mane and beard and blue eyes. An ornate sword as a cutie mark. He will be the one to address the audience and begin the tournament.

> Crisp Sheets: In charge of admin work. You'll see her when you register for the tournament. An adult navy mare with a messy white mane, wears half-moon glasses.

> Diva La Vida: Assistant in admin work. Appearance in OC page in sig. She'll be guiding tournament attendees around.

> Hypno D. Tick: A large pink unicorn with a sparkly pink mane. First defence against overly rowdy competitors and keeps the relative peace. A moderator of sorts. Please don't kill me

> Magni Bronzebeard: A stout brown earth pony with a reddish beard. He sells traditional, heavier weapons and armour, as well and repairs them.

> Second Sight: ( link in sig ). Sells lighter, magical and high tech equipment, as well as repairs them.

> Dr. Zed: Tournament Medic. Looks like a stallion version of nurse redheart.

 

> Keiko: Tournament vet. Blood red mane and white coat.

> Inn Keep: Runs an open-air bar and bistro. Link's in sig. Chill there if you want

How the tournament works ( This entire portion is said by Excalibur with lack of narrative, so yeah...)

 

The tournament follows a point scoring system. You score points when you win 'events' that take place in the surrounding arenas and beyond. You may score points the following ways....

 

1. Participating in Monster battles

 

Our staff will summon a monster from dimensions beyond our comprehension for you to fight. Your performance in the battle will determine the number of points you are awarded at the end of it. Oh, and did I mention that you can choose to fight monsters solo or in a group! Yes, work with your fellow enemies to take down stronger monsters!

 

2. Standard or group duels

 

Occasionally, you will be matchmade to fight against another fighter with around the same number of points as you. The winner will gain points. However, you are allowed to challenge others. Should they accept, the match WILL be ranked so long as the match takes place on arena groundsm which can be ANY of the surrounding arenas or this one.

 

You may also have team battles, which are similar to standard battles, except its one team against the other.

 

3. Free for alls

 

This one's a crowd favourite. A large group of combatants will be selected to have an all-out brawl to the last one standing.

 

 

Well, now that's settled, the champion of the tournament would obviously be the one with the most points! They will be awarded a prize worthy of their merit, and trust me, it won't disappoint. 

 

*Chuckle*. Now, I hear you ask, 'How are you going to track all of this when you're already grossly understaffed?' Simple! COMBATANTS! See your entry pass? Hold up the card on it and tap whatever you think is the front surface with whatever appendage you possess!

 

( Excalibur holds up the stone tablet attached to the lanyard of his own and taps it. )

Challenge an RPer to a battle in the OOC, if he accepts, your OC appears as one of the participants of the tournament ( controlled by you ) and takes part in an event together with one or more of the main RPers.

He's allowed to use portals, but they should take the same amount of effort as a teleport. Oh, and no portal storage pelase. It's kinda of a mary-sue thing.

Both are accepted, but try keep the aura's power level at a decent level. Also, try to keep the 2 oc's separate. Have them interact with other people's OCs instead of having conversations between the 2 of them
