Why are Changeling OCs so samey?

It feels like there are only these few types of Changeling OC:

 

Changeling that can't transform, or control transformations.

 

Changeling disguised as Bland Genericpony.

 

Changeling that's cute and loveable and shallow and generic, typically female and childish.

 

Changeling that serves Chrysalis blindly, typically male.

 

Female changeling straight out of a by-the-numbers clopfic.

 

Changeling that hates being a changeling.

There's not much provided about them from either FiM media, be it the show, comics, or chapterbook, so it makes sense most of those follow archetypes based on what little we know about them

You're not wrong. Though, I don't know how's there's anything wrong with this in particular, despite the way you worded it. Because these are achetypes; building blocks for the basic character types of changelings. Inherently, there's nothing wrong with them, because this is just how a character starts off, and no indication of how complex a character will eventually end up through development, provided someone puts the time and effort into building on them. About the only reason I could think of for these to be considered "bad," per se, is if someone didn't bother to fill a character out beyond these, and just left them like these blank, generic statements. But then, that's not exactly a problem with the character, now is it?

Well, most if not all of the OCs in this fandom can be bolied down to five types.

Aren't Changelings in the show pretty much exactly the same when they aren't copying other ponies? Sure, the fandom does have the creative freedom to go all out, but it seems many are fairly show accurate, with little variation between them.

If you are looking for a good fanfiction about changelings with an original take on changelings or at least compared to others, than I would highly recommend you to read A Novel Tale.

I find it to be a pretty interesting read and as someone who reads a lot of fanfiction, I feel like it is much better than a lot of others that I have read.
