Guest July 25, 2016 Share July 25, 2016 I can see that, but it doesn't seem like the best way to execute it. Lurking seems like an okay idea, but it might confuse users too. Unfortunately there is no way for the site to automatically just allow people in after a certain time period passes. Post count is the only automated system we have. Other debate forums are way way worse, ad hominems for days, circular reasoning for days, elitism, distractions. That coming from a site literally called debate. And by keeping the requirements high we keep people from joining that are only interested in starting chaos in the debate forum. Many will give up long before entry. Sometimes setting a standard is a good thing.

For members caught in the bubble who were able to post previously and all of a sudden can't, the staff can make a change to them individually. In fact ... I would be shocked if they hadn't already done this because that is specifically the type of compromise the Admins would jump at. The ability to view bit not participate issue doesn't seem to have generated much confusion, but time will tell. Trust me it SQ gets a few questions from newer members, it would likely be revisited by staff. Looks like they even are on top of it with the FAQ's. Foxy Socks 2,600 August 10, 2016 Share August 10, 2016 Well I guess it makes a bit of sense. It seems like the only effective way to do it. We will see how this change goes I guess, though I don't use the debate pit. \/ 651 August 11, 2016 Share August 11, 2016 The problem is you now create a situation where active members who occasionally post in DP, but have contributed months worth of content in areas that don't count ... now have a legitimate complaint where the response is their contributions are 'eh you don't count as much'. At least that is how they might see it, and what a subsequent Feedback topic would say. If it isn't too much of a hassle, there could be an entry request sort of system set up for those that spend most of their time in the Roleplay or Forum Games section. It wouldn't be too hard to review the person's profile to see that they are indeed active and reasonable members worthy of having access to the debate pit. Though I can see why at first it might be a bit problematic, telling by how many members already exist that would require this kind of verification. Though once the big pile got out of the way, one could assume only a few requests to enter would trickle in. Enter the Forest...
Brony Lounge 102 August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 Myself I think people should be able to see the debate pit from the get go, but not be able to post until they hit around 50-60 posts, the rest I agree with you on

SBaby 660 September 11, 2016 Share September 11, 2016 (edited) @@Key Sharkz, Don't even know where this place is sounds interesting though Before I respond to the topic itself, I'll say this. I usually don't go to debate sections too often. And I typically only go there if there's something newsworthy that pertains to the topic. And that's it. I wouldn't bother going there with any intent on changing anyone's minds, because it's pretty much impossible. The fact is, debating pretty much never changes anyone's minds on a topic. But I will say that the post requirements should at least mitigate trolling or spamming, since most people that make 100 or more posts on a message board are more likely to be committed enough to that board, where they won't want to jeopardize that. So that part does help. Edited September 12, 2016 by SBaby A Winner Is You!!!
