The SNK Neo Geo AES was released in 1991 and was a state of the art console. It had graphics and sounds, that you would usually only find in Arcades and it was far ahead of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis in almost everyway. It was home to alot of classic fighters, like Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, GAROU, King of fighters, etc. But also action classics like Metal Slug.  Problem was, it was way too expansive for most people, with a launch price of 800 US Dollars and also 200 US Dollars for every game, so only very wealthy people could afford this console.

 

I actually used to have a friend, who was very wealthy and he had one of those. I remember playing alot of King of Fighters 98. Samurai Shodown 2 and Metal Slug X on it.

 

What about you? Any memories of it? Do you perhaps played any games that came out for it?

Never owned one due to both how rare and expensive it can be but I love a good majority of NEO GEO/SNK games, especially Garou, the Metal Slug and KoF series

Also in the camp of never owning one in my life, but learning about it nowadays, it was a really impressive system for its time. I mean, arcade perfect games in your own home at such a spacious size? Well, spacious compared to arcade cabinets at least.

 

Some of my favorite games for this are Metal Slug which is an easy pick, League Bowling, and Windjammers.

I used to play the hell out of Metal Slug X, which is not only challenging, but funny as hell.

 

I actually liked the Metal Slug series more, then the Contra series, mostly because of its sometimes dark humor.

To be honest I have never heard of this console before.

I guess I need to do some more research on gaming.

But that price range is absolutely insane though.

Since this thread is about NEO GEO, I though this would be great to grab everyone's attention. Humble Bundle brought back the NEO GEO Bundle for a couple of days. Still one of the best ones they've put out

The only reason the Neo Geo stands out to me is because of neo turf masters. I saw it in an arcade one time I was staying at a hotel when I was much younger and it seems to be following me around everywhere on the internet.

 

As for the console, I never had the chance to play it. While it has beautiful graphics, we probably couldn't have been able to afford it.

Thanks for that little commercial. I just bought the whole bunch of it. Some of them even have Steam Achievements.
