What items do you think will be needed for the movie to be good?

Usually movies based off of TV shows are really good, like the sponge bob and South Park movies. Both movies had the characters do what they normally do in the regular episodes but have them conquer their fears and have something fans have been waiting for. SpongeBob became a man and the manager while plankton finally succeeded in getting the krabby patty formula. In the South Park movie it gave the fans a full dose of satin and showed Stan finally be Wendy's boyfriend. With the MLP movie it should do something similar like introduce starswirl the bearded or making Lyra and Bon Bon kiss.

For the love of god NO lesbian relationships! I have nothing against them and don't mind if they're subtle like in Finding Dory, but we don't need a blatant message.

Everything that (IMO) makes the show good, but on a bigger scale fitting the big screen. Great Writing, Great Animation, A Great Storyline, Great Comedy, and Great Characters.

There's a lot of things that I think would make the movie great, such as improving the animation, overall good writing, a sense of scale (like the stakes are a lot more than a typical episode), etc, but what I want, above all else, is a good villain. I really hope there's some sort of big bad that the group has to deal with and not some sort of natural (or should it be considered magical?) disaster like the Season 6 opening. The show's had some great villains over the years, from Chrysalis to Discord, and I think another one as great as those would make it something special. 

 

(Cameo by Starswirl the Bearded would be neat, too  )

That kind of thinking is the problem. The mere appearance of a lesbian couple shouldn't automatically considered a "message." There have been heterosexual couples in almost every movie ever for the past century without anyone batting an eye. Ideally, homosexual couples should be treated the same.

 

Also, I think that Lyra and Bon Bon becoming a romantic couple would be a nice touch; the queer-baiting in Slice of Life was pretty gross.
