I hope we're getting a Claude Frollo-caliber villain

Liev Schreiber always plays an incredibly sadistic character. It would be amazing if he played off someone who causes mass suffering, except of course on a reasonable level.

That would actually be pretty epic. Someone who just generally does not care about, really, anything except his own twisted view of the world. Tirek would have nothing on him.

I don't think we should be setting our expectations anywhere near as high as a Frollo-esque villain; that was a high-mark even for Disney standards!

 

If anything I would expect something along the lines of a Rourke, Maleficent, or McLeach. They're motivations were much more simple and no where near as dark (at times), and I would think that would be a better fit.

Well, Schreiber has quite a respectable career, so i'm pretty sure he will give us an antagonist that is intimidating and cunning enough to earn himself a well-liked place with the fandom, perhaps on par with Tirek (or even surpassing him) in evilness.

Funny coincidence they both played the Marvel villain Sabretooth at some point

Anyway, if they aim at someone like Frollo, I think it would be a toned-down version of him, as I think it would be too dark of ponies. There are plenty of other Disney villains to take inspiration from: Scar, Ursula, The Queen, Maleficent, Hopper, Shan Yu, Clayton......

Frollo is the darkest of Disney villains and not magical at all, he would not fit.
