Is it safe to say the fans put a lot more thought into the story/continuity?

I would say yes, but that's only because a fandom has much more creative freedom than the writers of a children's show.  Keep in mind that the target audience is pre-pubescent girls, and inserting more mature subject matter like death and sexuality might confuse them.  If not, then they still run the risk of upsetting their parents for trying to teach them such things before they feel they're ready.

Yes, but that is strictly because we don't have the same restrictions and stipulations as they do. We can go all out with our ideas, they can't. Plus, not everything we as a fandom think up is all that great.

Fans ALWAYS put more thought into everything, free from deadlines, editors, executives whatever. You can ALWAYS trust fans to think/overthink ANYTHING through as much as possible. This applies to just about ANYTHING.

Well, there's also a lot more of us than there are of them. And we tend to share ideas more freely while they pretty much are not *allowed* to by contract. They're not supposed to be reading/viewing *anything* the fandom produces in case anything slips into their own work and they get called on the copyright carpet for it.

I would say yes; though that's honestly a common thing throughout all of media. Fans are generally passionate about whatever tv/movie/game/book series they follow, and one of the things they can really focus on is continuity. The Spyro fandom is an example of this. Back when rumors were surfacing for the game that would be known as "The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning" it looked like it was a prequel rather than a reboot and it helped us to really consider the exact timeline of Pyro events from the original to "A Hero's Tail" including the handheld games.

So yeah; just a common fan trait. ;)

I'd say yes. Fans are more numerous than writers and are not restricted by things such as deadlines, executive meddling, keeping things PG, and so on (unless they impose these rules on themselves, like self-set deadlines). Fans can do pretty much anything they want with the story, whenever they want, however they want. Of course, this doesn't apply to just MLP fans, but generally any fans for any media.

That's not to say the writers are doing a bad job though, without them, we wouldn't have all the wonderful worlds to immerse ourselves in. ;)

Well the show doesn't really have that great wordlbuilding and in that respect and I can say that the fans put a bit more thought into it,

but for the most part, I don't really think that the fans do a better job with MLP than the writers do.
