critique wanted OC Help? (Name suggestions?)

I need help figuring out how to decide a name, talent, and cutie mark...

 

 

 

Edit: I made her a cutie mark. And the first part of her name is Vanilla. I wanted a 2 part name. Suggestions welcomed. If I dont get one I like I'll keep her name as Vanilla Swirl

Thank you! And let's see... She loves drawing and is pretty decent. She not the best at singing but does it anyway. She's a decent baker. Oh and she's great at making others happy! And she loves doing magic tricks.

Personality she's usually kind and forgiving. Though she can have her moments when she really doesn't care if she's in a bad mood. She tries hiding it though since she doesn't want the other ponies to be disappointed in her. She also can let small things bug her when they shouldn't.

That's a good start. Let's figure out what her talent is.

Deciding on a talent is the easy part. Choose one of those things she is good at/likes to do and focus in that for her talent. You've got some options because you've given her several things she likes to do. It can also be related to how she interacts with other ponies.

I hate when I internet goes out randomly... Any let's see... Baking, drawing, friendliness, or magic.... Well she wouldn't be as powerful in magic as Twilight or Starlight. She wouldnt be the best at baking but probably good enough to help out Pinkie. Though I would love to have the magic or drawing cutie mark.

Alright, that's good. Drawing or magic. So what I would do next is to decide on a name. You can name her anything, but the common thing is to name an OC based off of her talent, or her personality.

Do you want it to be a two-word name, or a one-word name? Brainstorm adjectives related to her personality and words related to her talent.

2 word! I've been suggested one, Sunrise Swirl, but I chaged the first word to Vanilla. So I think Vanilla something would be cute. Heck Swirl could work for either actually. Though I'd like to see what other names I can come up with before deciding.

Also this seems a lot easier after talking to somepony else.

Those are very good names! there is no problem in letting your thoughts simmer. You can use one of those names, and if you ever think of something better, you can change it. My OC had gone through several major changes from his name to his profession since I created him.

 

The only thing left is the cutie mark, which is kind of the culmination of everything else. People often make the cutie mark directly related to the talent, but you can also base it off her personality or name. So, if you name her Vanilla Swirl, you can have a vanilla flower (which when I think about, would work very well with her color scheme), or you can work a swirl shape into the design. Maybe you combine the talent with the name and do something like a pencil drawing a swirl (if you decide to make drawing her talent. The only thing I should tell you as a warning, is that you should not make it too complicated. When it comes to cutie marks, simplicity works well.
