Could there be some kind of significance to Spike?

When Spike was born that was when Rainbow Dash did her first Sonic Rainboom and christened every member of the mane six with their cutie mark. I think that could play a significant role in the future like Spike has some kind of magic/Element of Harmony property in him just like the rest of the mane six. He can't be just an ordinary dragon.

I'm interested in knowing what was spike's egg doing in canterlot. Perhaps said connection brings some answers about his family and purpose.

Besides, to use offsprings for magical testing is kinda ruthless for ponies.

He has had a very significant role in Twilight's life and I don't think she'd be where she is without him, that's enough significance for me. However, I really like how this new season he also accomplished great things like making peace with the Dragon Lands and being the catalyst of the Changelings' reformation, so perhaps he does have some magic inside of him like the mane 6 do (specially since this season he did more to help Equestria than they did). I'd like to see more of that in season 7.

Being Twilights right hooved dragon since day one

His sole existence made it possible for the mane 6 to get their cutie marks, and therefore was essential for literally every time they saved Equestria.

I wouldn't go so far in saying that he's going to have an Element of Harmony. There's only six elements, even though for some reason there's, oh spoiler alert!

 

 

Even though it seemed like Sunset received an element in Legend of Everfree.

 

 

Regardless though, even though the Mane Six saved Equestria multiple times from big baddies like Nightmare Moon, Discord, the mutating plants, and Tirek, and were big help in keeping the crystal ponies happy, Spike did alot of his own things like saving the Crystal Empire, helps both Twilight and Starlight out in achieving their goals, and let's not forget that he helped Equestria gain an alliance with both the dragons and the changelings! He doesn't need an Element of Harmony! He's already doing a good job being Twilight's assistant AND an ambassador! Giving him too much wouldn't feel right.
