How would you react if "Herd Marriages" showed up in-show?

It would be really modern and shock a lot of people, especially old "Marriage is between one man and one woman!" people.

 

A herd relationship is a group of ponies married and living together.

To put it bluntly, I can't see any way for that to end well.

It's an interesting idea, sure, but I'm pretty certain there's just about a snowball's chance in a warm place of such a thing getting into the show.

 

For one, it's basically asking for trouble. As a society we are slowly moving towards broader concept of marriage, but that idea is still so far out of norm that people would raise hell for it. Even in a series that was meant for adult viewers it would be seen as a cheap dig for attention via LGTB controversy. We are barely seeing minorities being represented in the 'all audiences' media, so something like this in a show meant for young children? Nope, not worth the fallout.

 

And secondly, would that kind of thing even be feasible in the My Little Pony setting? Yes, they are equines, but they obviously live in a society that's very similar to ours. We've seen several married couples in the show, so we can assume that is the norm for ponies as well. There's really no way to introduce this kinda alternative relationship into the narrative casually.

In terms of this actually occurring in the shower, it's doubtful that Hasbro would:

1) put something as controversial as Herd Relationships in any show, let alone a kids show,

2) essentially re-write the lore of MLP to accommodate "Pony Herd" relations.

 

The thing is, that first and foremost MLP is a kids show, and the characters aren't representative of the Equine race and are more often than not solely Mediums to convey a Story and a Morale. Even if Hasbro wanted to do an episode on Herd Relations with Ponies, they'd probably not tackle it as bluntly as expected, either by having the herd simply playing a role in the episode with the Implying of relationship or just simply being PC (Like Hasbro has been in the past) and avoiding the topic altogether.

 

To a certain degree, Herd Relationships have already been addressed with the Cows and the Buffalo's and its quite obvious that Hasbro has left it intentionally vague to avoid this kind of discussion In Episodes where these animals are featured, they are used as a Plot Medium, and they don't represent the Animal Race!

 

Long Story Short, Hasbro's Too PC and would likely never touch the topic directly, and even if they did it'd be probably vague like they've done with other races with Herd relationships in real life!

There are plenty of other programmes out there that are far better vehicles for experimenting with alternative lifestyles, specifically more adult-oriented programmes.  Hasbro are out to sell toys and other merchandise, they don't want to be dragging controversy around with them like an Albatross round their neck.  They wouldn't even defend Derpy and backed down immediately when a handful of people complained about her, they certainly aren't going to stick their heads above the parapet and intentionally court controversy.

 

And neither should they.  The cartoon is meant to be light-hearted family entertainment, not a propaganda vehicle for showcasing alternative lifestyles or worldviews.

Well, what's stopping you? If somebody decided that all fanworks that didn't adhere to canon had to be destroyed right now, about half of all the fan created content would have to go. You can make your own fanon, and its no less correct or plausible than someone else's.

I would not be interested in seeing this, so if it happened I would not watch MLP anymore. Keep that stuff to fanfics, they can be just as canon for the writer as the show is to the viewers.

To put it simply. I'd be crying because I'm not a pony, nor able to marry some cute mares  . Then again, that's something to be left to fics. This being canon is a big NOPE
