Plonkett 345 November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 There is this 3d animation program called Maya. It's said to be the industry standard for 3d animation, just like Toon Boom is for 2d animation. Just imagine if there were bronies that would animate with Maya, it would certainly give SFM a run for its money. But let's face it, the vast majority of bronies animate in Flash for 2d and SFM for 3d. There is one particular artist who has used Maya to render MLP character, here's a pic. Just imagine if someone could animate with this, they'd be the 3d version of Duo Cartoonist!
Fhaolan 4,494 November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 Mainly the cost. The full version of Toon Boom Harmony costs about $100 a month. The full version of Maya costs about $200 a month. Plus 3D rendering takes a lot more processing/GPU oomph which means either investing in a much heftier box, suffering through long render times (like me, because I'm just futzing with this stuff), or subscribing to a render farm for even more costs. Unless you have these things already, it's really hard to justify that expense for just fan-stuff. Especially since if this is what you want to do, having *just* fan-stuff in your portfolio isn't going to do you any favors. There are alternatives to Maya, like Blender which is free, but to get Maya-like quality out of it you have to really know how to manipulate it (which I don't, again, just futzing). Foxy Socks 2,603 November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 Her legs seem quite too long in my opinion, but it would probably be a pain (or more of) than what else is available. leonbrony17 1,217 November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 First they should make one video to test it. To see how it looks. If it sucees, they should make more. But i'm very statisfied by the great animations in 2d of duo cartoonist.

Makes sense, not everyone in the fandom has thousands of dollars. XD As for Blender, CreatorOfPony is by far the most popular artist in the fandom who uses it. Her legs seem quite too long in my opinion, but it would probably be a pain (or more of) than what else is available. And her neck, but that's pretty much the artist's fault. Was actually generally speaking, but would be pretty cool seeing Duo Cartoonist delve into 3d. They'd be like Disney in both 2d AND 3d. cider float 2,539 November 12, 2016 Share November 12, 2016 Lot of these animating programs seem like something you have to get funded by your arts college or somewhat. Not all bronies have some big academia backing them up with this.
Fhaolan 4,494 November 12, 2016 Share November 12, 2016 Although, I have to admit, I'm now feeling like I need to figure out how to get Celestia's or Luna's mane to work in Blender. I can do the hair job that image shows, it's annoying and time-consuming in Blender, but I can do it. But the ethereal flowing semi-transparent sparkly with color stripes? That's a whole other thing. Some kind of bound cloud of Particles? Or a morphing solid with some kind of mixed texture? Maybe both at the same time? I'm curious now... that's a whole era of Blender I haven't tried yet.
Fluffy Cupcake 25 November 12, 2016 Share November 12, 2016 (edited) As most have said already, most don't do it because $$$, and some of us don't want to be a yar har har while producing content either, and saying you produced something with one of those versions isn't fun either. Fan content isn't worth that. And that just leaves us to the freebies like SFM and Blender. These industry standard programs need to have a free or cheap reduced feature edition for their programs, just like Sony has Movie Studio as alternative to Vegas. It's a lot cheaper but doesn't have nearly as much as Vegas. Edited November 12, 2016 by Xiron

cmarston1 5,964 November 21, 2016 Share November 21, 2016 It's probably just too expensive and a pain to work with. But it looks a lot better than the SF something animations on YouTube.
Applejacket 186 November 22, 2016 Share November 22, 2016 Ugh, don't get me started. I have too many projects on my hand as it is. But one day, it might happen I do SFM though. Memes
silvadel 1,393 November 22, 2016 Share November 22, 2016 Maybe because the show uses flash and soon toon-boom. People generally want to keep at least somewhat to the style of the original show rather than trying to move it into a new medium. Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. FizzyGreen 909 November 22, 2016 Share November 22, 2016 Maya is a program Disney once used. Yes, it has improvements over the free SFM, since the Maya for instance has a fancier particle & volumetric system, but it costs, like many said, 200$ a month. So if you aren't using it everyday as something like a job or aren't rich, you probably don't have it. And i also believe that such heavy graphics already go in the direction of GTX 1080 or Pascal Titan X GPUs and those are expensive aswell.
