I think it would be funny if Fluttershy's dad was say a badass Wonderbolt in his younger days with a nickname who is actually one of Rainbow Dash's idols and she only knew him as his nickname so she didn't know it was him.

That would be interesting. I like when shows play with expectations. In Trek you have the fact that Kirk was kinda a bookworm as a cadet, while Picard was reckless and a punch first ask questions later type. This would be similar.

This is actually an awesome idea. He could have been one of the world's greatest flyers, only known by one name and when Flutters was born maybe he retired or something. To do his collecting and live a simpler life. Though there would probably need to be something that explains him being kind of a pushover nowadays, unless that was always his nature.

That would definitely be an interesting contrast to the kind of pony he is these days, and it would give Fluttershy some awkward moments if she knew her father used to be that way. It actually might explain why Zephyr Breeze is the kind of pony he is in that his personality stems from the actions of his father.

While we are at it Rarity's parents can be spies on missions or worldly thieves, Pinkie's parents are hitmen or mobsters, Twi's parents are the highest noble family and she didn't tell anybody, RD's parents are actually super lame and Rd has to come to terms with it, and AJ's parents are actually left her and didn't die and granny lied so their kids would help with the farm instead of leaving.
