My reasoning as to why the TwiDash ship could actually work:

We've all heard this kind of topic before but I want to throw my personal spin on this ship as its my personal all time fav and not just because I like the two.(Personally until later seasons, i thought dash was kind of a  :yay:  but I still shipped the two because of my reasons I thought they would make a good couple.)

Reason 1: Rainbow Dash's outgoing personalty is a really good thing for a sheltered bookworm like Twilight:

Up until later seasons, Twilight RARELY left the her home which was a library, a literal slice of heaven for any bookworm. As a couple, I foresaw Rainbow Dash as a positive encouragement to get her out of the library and enjoy the sun.

Reason 2: Twilight would make a good "grounder" for Rainbow Dash:

Once again, Until later seasons, Rainbow Dash was kind of a  :yay:  to even her best friends and rarely took time to stop for a breather. As a couple, I foresaw Twilight as a positive encouragement to give Rainbow Dash an outlet besides practicing potentially dangerous stunts which could endanger her or other ponies. I also foresaw her helping Rainbow Dash warm up to the idea of curling up with a good book. (which DID happen!)

Reason 3: Opposites attract.

Lets face it, Twilight and Dash are total opposites to each other, one is was a reclusive bookworm and the other was an outgoing showoff. This is exactly why I thought they would end up as a couple in the first place. As history of romance has shown, a significant other with an opposite personalty to yours can be a really good thing for both people in the relationship.

Because their personalities are so different, it would be easy for each one to point out the flaws in each other and help them improve as ponies. Sure they would get on each others nerves at times but what couple doesn't have a squabble now and then?

And those are my reasons why Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle make the best couple!

Thoughts?

Reason 3: Opposites attract.

Ya lost me. I don't enjoy shipping "opposite" characters much to begin with, and Twilight and Dash have some pretty basic personality differences which I just don't think would allow for a closer relationship than they have. I tend to see their dynamic as a bit adversarial even at its most friendly, and while that might help them in the way you've stated, it also makes it difficult for me to see them ever becoming a couple. More power to you for enjoying this pairing, I guess.

Can't deny its a much more viable ship than RD and AJ, their competitive personalities with lead to a breakup within a week of them beginning to date.

I think I can deny that, actually, but going into more detail would just bog us down in a shipping war.

The TwiDash pairing is my favorite ship as well. I agree with all of your reasons as to why this ship could actually work. Of course, I know that any and all ships will likely never be cannon to the show, but I think it's all in good fun pairing different characters together. I always get excited whenever the 2 of them pair up in an episode together. Their chemistry and character dynamic is the absolute best. I don't think any other mane 6 combination even comes close :P . There is a reason why Testing Testing 1, 2, 3 and Top Bolt are on my all time favorites list.

I'm not usually big on the inter-mane 6 ships, however, Twilight has also been very consistently supportive of Rainbow Dash in every endeavour Rainbow has ever embarked on. That, I figure, is something that would not go unnoticed by the Element of Loyalty.

I ship em, but wouldn't really want any pair to become canon. Most of this pairing's popularity seems to be from fan fics rather than canon though, however, I'd love for them to get more episodes as a pair, both episodes they've had together have been gold

I like TwiDash, and I would say that it works and is entertaining because Twilight and Rainbow are different in several ways, but also have key traits (and interests) in common.

I think one of their biggest shared traits is a drive to excel in their own specializations, which would lead them to respect each other, even if they're not totally interested in each other's specializations. I would also argue, though, that Twilight and Rainbow have, or could have, at least some interest in each other's pursuits. I think Twilight has displayed a moderate interest in and appreciation of flying and the Wonderbolts. And Rainbow has a shared interest at least in reading Daring Do, which could be expanded to some extent (if it isn't already) to Twilight's reading and learning about magic, friendship, or other things. This seems like a good place for a couple to be: they don't need to have total interest in each other's activities, but it's good for them to at least understand each other's interests, be able to talk about them, and sympathize with them.

I also think that Rainbow and Twilight would be on about the same level in terms of contribution to their relationship. I can imagine both of them "winning" arguments, convincing the other to try something different, and taking the initiative to do things. We've observed that they can both engage in good-natured sarcasm or snark and keep up with each other. I've seen TwiDash shipfics in which Twilight pursues Rainbow, and ones in which Rainbow pursues Twilight, and I find both cases to be believable and relatable. In contrast, Rainbow would seem to be the much more dominant force in, for example, a FlutterDash relationship. It seems like Rainbow would most often be defending Fluttershy, pushing Fluttershy to do new things, and compromising in Fluttershy's direction, with the reverse happening much less.

With the above in mind, I agree with @Fluttershyponygal's points that Twilight and Rainbow can learn from each other and help to moderate each other's excesses. However, I would argue that that's more likely to happen in their relationship, not necessarily because "opposites attract", but rather, because I think the two of them are different enough to learn from each other while not being so different that they fail to understand, respect, or relate to each other.

I could go on you know, a long rant about why I think Rarijack would be the prefect couple... but would it really matter at all? It's not gonna happen even if a LGBT ship DOES happen it won't be mane cast since that would case a giant shitstorm even if everyone accepted LGBT if only because people would fight "NO THEY SHOULD BE WITH OTHER CHARACTER".
