Is Nightmare Moon based off Maleficent?

I noticed a little bit back that our very own princess of the night, Nightmare Moon, bears similarities to Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent. Just look at their designs and you can see right off that they're fairly close. No, not identical, but definitely similar.

Huh? Not something I've considered before but that reference video is almost too good to ignore. I would have to agree that Maleficent was at least an influence on Nightmare Moon. That scene was a good homage as well.

There are ABSOLUTELY connections. Maleficent was definitely a source of inspiration. Just like I'm pretty sure Ursula was a source of inspiration for Chrysalis.
