Background ponies still need development.

There's a lot of talk regarding secondary ponies becoming main characters, at least together with the Mane Six. It's been happening with Discord ever since Season 3, it's happening with Starlight and Trixie, and now possibly Maud. I don't mind this decision. So why not give the background ponies the same treatment and elevate them to secondary status for a few episodes?

Slice of Life wasn't enough. I want to see the main characters get help from Derpy and Doc Whooves to solve a crisis that requires science and not magic. I want the map to order the Mane Six to resolve a friendship problem between Vinyl and Octavia. I want to see Bon Bon's occupation as a secret agent put to further use. I want Twilight to make amends with Lyra the same way she did Minuette and Moondancer.

Doesn't anyone else feel this way? Hasbro knows how much the fandom likes them, so there's no reason why they can't get this kind of development before the show ends.

I think it's enough that we've got characters such as Maud and Starlight and Discord getting more development and screen time. Sure I'd love to see more of Bon Bon and Lyra, but just because there are other characters in the spotlight right now, it doesn't mean that we won't find out more about them in a future season. By the way things are going with a Season 8 confirmed, there's a lot more of this show to come, so who knows we could quite possibly find out more about the background characters. I think of the development of secondary characters as being a step towards that.

Yeah, some more development on the main SoL characters would be nice, but it could potentially remove more of the traits given by the fandom while transitioning into the show's plot.

Imagine if Twilight would amend with Lyra, how would she do it while letting Lyra keep her attitudes, hobbies, and habits that the fandom gave her?

Yeah, it gets really tough after a while. The best character recasting that is plausible is Bon Bon. Since the writers gave her the personality. (way different than the "Squidward-ese" traits that the fandom gave her)

But, here's for hoping that it happens.

While those ideas could be fun they aren't really neened. And first I rather have them have supporting roles like Nurse Redhead has in episode 3 where they get to speak and contribute to the plot a bit at the same time.

I pretty much agree with Snowflame here. Nurse Redheart as a supporting character in episode 3 was great and i think if they use more BG's let them be supports, instead of giving them full exposure.

I kind of lost interest in background ponies after around Season 4, but I wouldn't mind seeing them in the spotlight every now and then.

How about some BG ponies that haven't had the chance to be developed yet? Does it have to be the same ones? Can it be some unpopular ones like Sea Swirl, Sassaflash, Parasol, Cloud Kicker, Amethyst Star, and especially Merry May, who isn't even getting any cameos anymore! But none of you care about these ponies do you?  It's always DERPY, BONNIE, LYRA, VINYL!

They are called background ponies for a reason.  They aren't supposed to be main characters and have arcs, and are supposed to be props.  However seeing minor characters like Cheerilee and Zecora get some more focus is something I would like to see.

It doesn't matter. If any background pony can interact with the Mane Six and possibly help them develop more after six seasons, I don't see that as a bad thing. I'm not asking for them to have arcs. I just want them to DO something.
