Lambdadelta 1,462 July 22, 2017 Share July 22, 2017 My favorite: Starlight Her best: All Bottled Up. She still use magics to solve her problems but her reasons are justified, she doesn't want to let Trixie know her feelings and she doesnt want to lose her only Real friend. I like her bake tea cake without using magics like she does in No Second Prance, look at how upset she is when Trixie ruin the cakes (fuck you trixieeeeeeeee). This is best showcase of post-reformation Starlight. Her worst: Every little things she does. I like that ep, but... Mind control your friends is not COOL at all. This ep hurts Starlight's reputation. Even she try to make things right in the end but still... she needs a slap in her butt. Her behaviors in that ep is really sociopathic. (Not necessary a bad thing, it makes her character more complex than i expect but cost her likability). Honorable mention: Rock Solid Friendship. Blunt Starlight is so sassy, killing Pinkie from inside. My favorite: Pinkie (an alternative universe where Starlight doesnt exist) Her best: Pinkie Pride, still the best Pinkie episode, show her more than just a silly party pony. She takes her job seriously and proud. When Dash is stucked by that giant thing, Pinkie knew she had gone too far then accept defeat, how many times Pinkie know HOW to STOP. Her wide range of emotions in this ep is amazing, i cant see them in other episode. Her worst: *sign*. How that ep was written by same writer of Pinkie Pride, how she didnt realize she has written the worst portray of Pinkie, UNTIL NOW, pissed me off. Forget A Friend in Deed and Rock Solid Friendship, those obnoxious behaviors in that ep has good intents behind it and she still try to make thing right in the end but what about Filly Vanilli? What her agenda behind those madness? How many times her friends give her a sign "Stop!"? In the end i will never know why she did it, hahahaha, definitely a changeling hahahahaha.... That is a serious drawback of S4, flanderization.
Philweasel 139 July 22, 2017 Share July 22, 2017 Heh, I can't call ELTSD Starlight's worst characterization, because it's the episode that made me love her in the first place. Still I enthusiastically agree that it's really not her finest hour, and there is something seriously wrong with her head (as if we didn't already know that). But slightly wonky reforming psychopaths need love too!

I also think that was an amazing episode for Starlight (as a messed up pony) and the main reason I think the whole season 6 was her redemption season. I think ELTSD was as much Twi's trainwreck as Starlight's - Ok, it was Starlight in the cab tooting the horn, but it was Twi who sent the train careering downhill, then left it unsupervised to do its own thing, cheerfully whistling and taking Spike with her. I do get it - after second prances Twi was determined to give her student room to grow on her own - but her obliviousness to the glaringly obvious is rather extreme in this case. I am going to put the issue down to Twi's reaction to Celestia asking her to do something (anything!) resulting in tunnel vision. To her credit, when she got back, Twi actually stepped up and fixed things at the gross level, but left just enough unfixed that Starlight could fix it the rest of the way without magic - after a chewing out of course. A sincere apology and the ponies' own natures got her the rest of the way over the line, but as pinkie says "Wow, we are a Reeeeeeeeally forgiving group" ᚾᛖᚹ ᛚᚢᚾᚨ ᚱᛖᛈᚢᛒᛚᛁᚴ - ᚦᛖ ᚠᚢᚾ ᚺᚨᚦ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛞᛟᚢᛒᛚᛖᛞ

I am going to put the issue down to Twi's reaction to Celestia asking her to do something (anything!) resulting in tunnel vision. The tunnel vision was actually from Starlight as well. Twilight was just teaching her the way she was responding well with a rigorous laid out adgenda for her to fulfill and it works......when it comes to her magical studies. She could sense Starlight's uneasiness but since there was no complaints on this method why should Twilight assume it's not going to work. It's Starlight's fault for treating this like another magic lesson that she needs to succeed at because those are the lessoms she is comfortable with. I guess Twilight should have at least shadowed a lesson with her at first to get her to get it, but hey when you procrastinate it's sink or swim with a lot more weight on you. As for the topic: Sweetie Belle Best: For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils-I know most people would say Sisterhooves Social but for me this is the type of issues siblings deal with. Feeling inferior, feeling overshadowed. And man does Sweetie Belle just carry this episode beautifully, especially when trying to right her wrong. (Love that interaction with the bodyguard) Worst: Forever Filly-while not inherently written poorly she is just so unplayed compared to Rarity unlike in Sisterhooves Social. It hurts her even more that she's purposely supposed to be boring. One of my most ambitious role playing experiences. Plus other smaller stories and commentaries throughout the cup threads.
