gaming Finally, a conspiracy theory I can get behind.

I just want to start this off by saying that I'm not a crazy guy. I don't normally buy into all them conspiracy theories, and I can probably assume that you guys don't either. But I found one that really caught my eye. I was listening to Alpha Counter, which is a podcast I frequent, and there was a very interesting discussion about halfway through. I'll put up both the link and the episode file itself. If you wish to listen to the discussion, skip to after the first break, which is about 42 minutes in. WARNING: There's probably some harsh language in there.

For those of you who are too lazy to listen to this, Sean and Kevin are talking about the possibility that the next Sony console and the new Xbox are actually the same thing. They've pointed out several similarities in the announcements/leaks about the new consoles, such as the planned official announcement date (E3 2013), the graphics hardware (both use the Radeon HD 6670), and the decision of both consoles to refuse access to used games. Also, all these leaks are being released at nearly the same time for both consoles.

I've become quite intrigued by this, especially because it's my very first conspiracy nut experience. Now, I realize that this may not be enough evidence to prove anything, but I thought it was interesting at the very least. Your thoughts?

Here is my personal theory;

Nintendo paid Sony and Microsoft big bucks. That is why they did bad this year. They did this so the other two companies would make such horrible systems with horrible things like no used games, pure digital, blah blah blah, so that everyone would have no choice but to buy the WiiU.

Think about it~

Console gaming died when they added internet so if the used games are removed, that's it for me.

Probably more likely Sony and Microsoft made a gentleman agreement to have pretty much the same innards to keep cross-platforming simpler for Developers.

Both lost a handsome sum to Devs refusing to do cross-platforming because of the hardware differences.

I don't get why everyone is against used games. I also don't see how or why microsoft and sony would make something similar to each other.

Sony and Microsoft only make money off the title when it is purchased by the retail seller. AKA, if you buy used, they don't get a cut of the money.

If they did this I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh............. Hopefully they will both poor so much money into the gaming industry in order to compete with Nintendo that they both lose and Nintendo devours them whole

if you're implying that Sony and Microsoft are working together, take a moment and consider the absurdity of that statement. that will probably never happen in a thousand years, at least on gaming. and on the whole not accepting physical disks and making them download-only consoles, I don't see how they can honestly tell themselves that is a good idea. if they do that, that will be the finishing blow to stores such as Gamestop. I'd be a little sad to see that happen. and unless they do absurd sales like Steam does, which they won't, it would probably actually lower sales numbers.

I honestly hate the direction that the next gen consoles are going. The WiiU looks the most promising so far.

I can see that, too. No used games? There just asking for trouble. If you ask me, start investing in nintendo.

Yeah, Nintendo seems to have learned from some of the mistakes they made with the Wii, and are genuinely working to improve the console experience for the customer. Especially with that whole Gamecube Virtual Console thing.

And while I agree that trying to block used games isn't a very good idea for MicroSony right now, I do think that it's something that should be considered for the future.

I love reading up on conspiracy theories, but the only ones I truly believe are any and all that are involved with the National Basketball Association. This one seems very Farfetch'd (lol pokemon) and more of a series of coincidences.

Definitly. Maybe i will end up buying a wii u. Hopefully the Third party devolpers will back it with good games. It seems the only ones intrested in using Nintendos New Ideas are nintendo Games themselves. Which is a shame, really. the Wii U's inovations look FULL of potential. It just depends On the backup of third party games.
